The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecasted that heavy rain is expected in the southern regions of Thailand, with potential flooding and flash floods due to increased rainfall. Meanwhile, the upper regions will experience a drop in temperatures by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius.

A high-pressure system, or a moderately strong cold air mass, has moved from China to cover upper Thailand and the upper southern regions. This weather pattern is causing temperatures to fall by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, accompanied by strong winds.

The northeastern and northern parts of Thailand are experiencing cool to cold weather, while the central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the eastern and upper southern regions, are experiencing cooler temperatures. On the mountaintops and peaks, the weather is cold to very cold, prompting officials to advise residents to take care of their health due to the colder conditions. Additionally, caution against fire hazards is advised due to dry and windy conditions.

The TMD has also provided a weather forecast for the new year festival, predicting a 4-degree drop in temperatures and heavy rain. In the southern region, rainfall is increasing, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain.

People in these areas are advised to be cautious of heavy rain, which could result in accumulated rainfall leading to sudden flooding and flash floods, particularly in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying regions. The northeast monsoon, which is relatively strong, is influencing the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea, leading to strong winds in the Gulf of Thailand, with waves reaching 2 to 2 metres high.

In areas with thunderstorms, waves can exceed 3 metres. The Andaman Sea is experiencing waves approximately 1 metre high, with waves further from the shore reaching more than 1 metre, and in areas with thunderstorms, waves exceeding 2 metres.

Mariners in these areas are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the Gulf of Thailand are advised to refrain from leaving the shore during this period.

Air quality in upper Thailand is currently at a moderate to high level of dust and haze accumulation. However, it is expected to improve due to stronger winds covering the area, which will enhance air circulation.
