Farmer crashes into petrol station shop after mistaking accelerator for brake

A 69-year-old farmer sustained minor injuries after mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake pedal, causing his car to crash into a convenience store at a petrol station in Jalan Bukit Rambai, Melaka. The incident took place yesterday evening when the farmer, Jaafar Yusof, was leaving the station after refuelling his Hyundai Sonata.

Melaka Tengah district police chief Christopher Patit stated that Jaafar Yusof is believed to have accidentally pressed the accelerator while shifting to gear D to exit the petrol station. This led to the car crashing into the convenience store, shattering five glass panels at the site.

“The farmer was slightly injured in the leg in the incident,” Patit said in a statement today.

The police are currently investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
