Drunk Mercedes-Benz driver kills delivery rider in Bangkok (video)
A drunk Mercedes-Benz driver crashed into a female Thai delivery rider on the Thai-Japanese Bridge in Bangkok, causing the victim to fall off the bridge and die at the scene.
Officers from the Pathum Wan Police Station received a report of the accident at approximately 2.18am on Wednesday, December 4. The incident occurred on the Thai-Japanese Bridge above the Henri Dunant Intersection on Rama IV Road in Bangkok.
Upon investigation, officers found a bronze-silver Mercedes-Benz E200D sedan with visible damage and a black Yamaha Filano motorcycle overturned nearby. The sedan’s driver, 44 year old Punnamee, was still inside his vehicle but was unharmed.
Tragically, the motorcyclist, 44 year old Chawee Arsaisong, was found lifeless on the road below the bridge. She was wearing a green delivery company jacket and black trousers at the time of the incident.
Punnamee is reportedly an executive manager at a well-known beauty clinic in Thailand, although the clinic’s name has not been disclosed.
Channel 8 reported that Punnamee were returning home after attending a party when the incident occurred.
A subsequent alcohol test revealed that Punnamee had 119 milligrammes of alcohol per cent in his system—well over the legal limit of 50 milligrammes per cent.
ThaiRath reported that CCTV footage from a nearby building captured the fatal accident. The footage showed Punnamee’s car colliding with Chawee’s motorcycle, producing a loud crash, and captured the moment Chawee fell from the bridge after the collision.
According to Channel 3, Chawee’s family plans to take her body to her home province of Roi Et in Isaan for the funeral. They stated that they would address legal matters with the suspect after the funeral.
Punnamee expressed remorse in a media interview, saying he felt guilty and wanted to apologise to Chawee’s family. He vowed never to drink alcohol again, pledged to take full responsibility, and offered to assist the victim’s family.
He also revealed that he intends to travel to Roi Et to attend Chawee’s funeral and cover all the expenses for her family. However, Punnamee maintained that poor visibility at the accident site contributed to the tragedy.
