No Standing Zones are driving away tourists – Jomtien Beach

New ‘no parking zones’ along a section of Jomtien Beach in Pattaya are turning off drivers stopping for a quick treat from roadside vendors and local traders, according to the Pattaya Mail.

City Hall has recently erected new no parking signs and painted the curbs red and white (no standing) between Jomtien sois 17 – 19 in an effort to keep traffic moving through the narrower sections of Beach Road. But local vendors are not happy, claiming the new ‘no standing zones’ are driving away tourists.

Chairman of Jomtien Beach Umbrella Operator Club, Amnuaywit Sompongtham, was quoted in the Pattaya Mail saying he is aware of the situation and has been told tourists are worried about possible fines for parking in the area. But he claimed large tour buses are ignoring the warnings, often parking to drop off and pick up tourists in the prohibited areas.

He says the noise and smell of the buses are more likely the culprits driving away tourists from that section of the beach and will talk with city officials in charge to rectify the situation and seek a solution for local vendors and traders.
