Top comedy trio to play Phuket

PHUKET: Three first-rate British comedians – Tim Clark, Pierre Hollins and John Fothergill – will perform at the Watermark restaurant, at the Boat Lagoon, on May 26. Heading the trio will be host Tim Clarke, of whom The Guardian newspaper said, “Comperes are the unsung heroes of stand up comedy. The current master of this underrated art is Tim Clarke.” Clark regularly comperes at The Comedy Store and Jongleurs venues in the UK, adding to his long career as a professional comedian. He hosted BBC game show Give Us A Clue, and has worked on UK live radio, including spots with Danny Baker on Radio 5’s Morning Edition and Radio 1’s Loose Talk. He was also a contributor on BBC 2’s Fantasy Football. John Fothergill has played sell-out performances throughout the UK and at the Edinburgh Fringe comedy festival. Britain’s The Sun newspaper described him as “a top comedy turn and a right funny bloke”. The Guardian described his act as “hilarious stories delivered superbly”. Pierre Hollins, who may be the world’s only player of the electric squash racket, was described by The Irish Times as “soon to be huge”, while The Guardian rated him as “must see”. The trio will be in Thailand as part of a tour of Asia, and will perform at the The Punchline Comedy Club in Bangkok on May 28 and 29. The Phuket event has been organized by Stuart Bird of the Watermark and Gerard Cornielje from SEA Entertainment, along with the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket and the Maan Tawan property development. More top-rate comedians are expected to perform at the Watermark in September and November, though dates are artists have yet to be confirmed. The May 26 show will start at 9 pm, following a buffet dinner from 6:30 pm-8 pm. Tickets are 2,500 baht, including dinner and music provided by a live band afterwards.
