Large whale washed up

SURAT THANI: A six-meter whale that died off Maekoh-Koh Pee in Angthong National Park has been taken to the Phuket Marine Biological Center for further study. Somkiat Lungbomrung, the chief of Angthong National Park, said that on April 28 he received a phone call from a villager that a big whale had been washed ashore. K. Somkiat and officials went to the island off the park to see the dead whale, which weighed about 2,000 kg. It was later towed to the marine center. He said that villagers told him, “While they were swimming, they saw a couple of whales hunting fish. One whale accidentally banged into the coral and died. Waves brought it to the shore.” Whales are common in the Gulf of Thailand, especially from January to May.
