Indian men have been paying up to 10,000 Baht to Thai women for a marriage license.

Thairath is reporting that Immigration chief Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn says, “Many Thai women have been paid to get married with Indian men without any intention of a physical relationship.”

“Indian men are using the marriage license as a means to apply for a visa to stay in Thailand. Thai women are receiving 8,000-10,000 baht as payments for a sham marriage.”

“There are about 300 Indian men in Sara Buri, north-east of Bangkok, who have marriage licenses with Thai women. Some of those Thai women haven’t even realised that their names and identities are being used. We have revoked all 300 Indian men’s visas. Some of them have now escaped back to their country. We are searching for the rest of them.”
