Glue-sniffers come unstuck

PHUKET TOWN: Two teenagers were taken into custody for substance abuse yesterday after local residents reported three boys and a girl sniffing glue in the public park at Phuket Villa 1. When officers arrived at the park, the four teenagers fled in different directions, leaving behind a plastic bag containing rubber adhesive. Officers gave chase and caught two of the youths – a boy and a girl – and took them to Phuket Town Police Station for questioning. While Pol Cpl Karom Meemoo was explaining details to a fellow officer, the boy leaped to his his feet and bolted out of the police station and down Nakhon Rd. “I thought, ‘He’s just a kid, so I won’t handcuff him,'” Cpl Karom said later. “But I was wrong. I ran after him, but he was very fast. Within two minutes he was in front of Phuket Wittayalai School,” he said. “Luckily, people around there told me about a shortcut, and I caught him,” he added. The two teenagers were charged with illegal use of a substance and taken to the Phuket Juvenile Observation and Protection Center to await appearance in Phuket Juvenile Court. “They’re too young to be in jail,” said Cpl Karom. “What a pity.”
