The simple fact is that meeting with the so-called Prime Minister is an exercise in futility. He will not initiate anything because he cannot deliver and right now his reputation is already in the toilet so he cannot be seen to fail or U-turn yet again. This "government" regards foreign tourists as a security threat, a health threat and a cultural threat, but they need their money so pretend to welcome them. However the country's reputation as Teflon Thailand was long ago destroyed and it is now consigned to being just another destination among many. With half the businesses shuttered visiting here is a depressing experience compounded with restrictions and regulations and scams. 100% of my US, UK & EU friends who used to visit have already made bookings in the likes of Mexico, the Med, and Carribbean. They will not be here this year. The only future for Thai tourism is as a shrunken remnant of past good times.

the latest study found that over 90% of Thais have more expenses than their income and are barely getting by, so the Thai government is trying to promote domestic tourism. Brilliant idea! meanwhile inflation is rising very fast.
