  1. Arrested 1 Chinese guy, 3 Thai guys and a lady boy. Let me guess, they were either doing the conga or playing the train game and the lady boy was the engine. Could you imagine being one of the officers catching it in full swing. Talk about getting PTSD.

  6. I don't read it as fear mongering but some who read it could shift it in meaning to be that if that is the way ones thinking goes. Compliant sheep? I think you are getting too bent on this as for what I read it is just news and a shift in the mutation variant. There are probably more here who are anti the vaccines from China than are anywhere near on any scale wanting it and for it. You do have two things correct for your 2nd and 3rd sentences. The 4th sentence is a junta wish that is not happening nowadays, but they do enforce laws and such trying to force things on all Thai the way they want to see how the people and quack. I would gather the majority do not believe them and are totally against them now, and just seeing from the school kids is a showing this. I hear it from my kids, one already graduated and 2 are in University here now. So this is sort of the new horses mouth, and they are not buying or marching to their tunes anymore. Honestly, they have their preference to a vaccine as well, and unless iron fisted forced, then they will wait. Times have changed hugely and social media has done a lot of good for the Thai in education and thought on matters, although it is a bit overkill on how much they are surfing and using their. Scare mongering may only work with the ones who are old and still marching to the days of old and glory that are long long gone.

  7. Not just my diet that will protect me. My two doses of my vaccine and my annual booster will also protect me. But thanks for your concern.

  8. Not if people are eating healthy and hence not overweight. A good diet will also help with problems such as diabetes and other illnesses which are brought about by poor diet. All of this has a direct impact on how affected you could be if you contract Covid. Good diet may not have an immediate affect on the. It rent Covid situation, but as this is something the world will have to live with for many many years, maintaining a healthy diet will protect you from the more severe aspects of Covid in future years. Perhaps another reason why Asian countries are fairing better than western. Less obese people and less diabetes?

  9. It appears PM/General Prayut has alternative priorities to most sensible leaders. Does he really think he can vaccinate 70% of the Kingdom within August? What exactly is he going to vaccinate people with? Has no one told him there is a National shortage? I shall not be holding my breath on this, but hey ho he might pull it off, after all someone once turned water into wine and walked on water. 555

  14. Well then they are screwed as meaningful numbers are not showing up till October at best, next spring at worse.
    2 points
  15. Exactly. It's unrealistic to imagine that most people, anywhere, follow the restrictions and regulations - not just in Thailand but anywhere, although that's no excuse. Those in the Thong Lor nightclubs are far from all "hi-so" to judge by the cargo pants and Regency, nor are those on Bang Saen beach, and nor, very probably are delivery drivers trying to earn a living. Nor, judging by immigration checks in the UK and Canada, are all visitors. Relying on what's supposed t happen rather than what happens is a recipe for disaster - now or later.

  18. I'm reminded of the story Cary Grant told in the movie Charade. About the lying blackfoot and the truthful whitefoot people. And how, when you met one of them, how could you know which one you were talking to, and thus how could you believe them or not. It's becoming the same in Thailand. Every day, there are announcements from government departments, or committees, or local officials, or semi official bodies that go against what was said just days before. There is no strategy, no overall direction. You just can't believe anything that is said lately. How can you tell people not to travel at all costs at the same time as running promotions encouraging people to travel (to Phuket).

  20. I think the point of it is not to protect yourself, but to protect others from you. As a vaccinated person, you still have a reasonable chance of contracting Covid, you just won’t get seriously sick or die from it. But you can pass it on to another person who is unvaccinated and may very well get seriously sick or die from it. So it’s just about being a responsible citizen to self isolate.

  28. And the US has hit the vaccine wall. We're awash in the stuff. 30% of the eligible population - like 75M people - are just saying no to the vaccine. Look for more availability, even if it has to be purchased.
    1 point
  29. I think everyone with a legitimate vaccine and not just the privileged in this country. 60 and older would be better. Thais life expectancy is less than normal. But for the expats for this 20% of 1.5 million being 300,000 jabs of Psfizer, that equates to only 150,000 people. So it should only be based on all USA expats and their immediate family members first ( and the members should not have to have USA passport on marriage or birth cert), then for the rest I would hope the USA steps up the donation so it covers all expats and workers from countries that have bonds and good friendships with the USA. Lots of countries there are and we are all people. But as Thailand and the USA are far from being perfect worlds, let's see what happens. Looks like we are on the right track though!

  30. Agreed 100%. Thailand doesn't just seem tied to Siam BioScience, which is understandable but foolhardy in the extreme, but to have ruled out anything else but Sinovac. No J&J, apart from by / for the French, no Moderna unless it's for private sale, limited Pfizer, and not even Sinopharm (if anyone wants it) apart from for private sale through Chulaborn. It's just not realistic to put this down to incompetence while people are suffering and dying.

  32. No telling what will happen. But your guess is same as mine, something will go south for including the expats. I say expats because I am not on retirement, but am surely old enough as later later part in my 50's.
    1 point
  33. Ok, you are correct. I just went back and re-read the paragraph regarding it in Reuters. I would think the USA may step that up as part of a campaign of building better relations against what the red dragon is doing here. Anyway for me and my family, we are waiting for Pfizer. Still would like to see who will be put first in line here when considering the Thai folk.

  35. Far better, in my opinion, to advise Thailand's subjects what to do in terms of healthy eating and drinking, vitamin and mineral supplements, than trying to put the fear of Buddha into them. Advising governments on good solid heath practices should be the job of the WHO. And it shouldn't be difficult, considering that a Thai is the leader of the South East Asia section.

  37. Well......., as of today, all airlines (included TG) I have contacted to book my flight to Koh Samui on the 17/7 are telling me that transit through BKK Airport is ONLY for International connection. A connection to Koh Samui from overseas is a DOMESTIC one and therefore transit at BKK airport is NOT possible..... Despite all the communication, preparations and announcements, there will not be a single tourist arriving at Koh Samui from abroad if Thai authorities do not allow transit through BKK airport. To my knowledge, there is currently not a single direct international flight to Koh Samui. would be very happy is someone has different information.

  38. I take onboard the point you are making here, but is it really right people get charged different prices depending on where they came from? I bet your AUD$110 Uber ride would be the same price if you live in Sydney or if you are a visitor to Sydney? The idea that Phuket airport allow taxi firms to operate with dodgy meters or a special “tourist switch” under the seat is not right. I regularly give generous tips to taxi drivers when I feel they have charged me the same as anyone else. I feel sorry for many of these guys who are living hundreds of miles from family, sleeping in the cab and working long days just to earn a few hundred baht profit. It’s the same when trying to get a taxi from Bkk centre to Suvarnabhumi. Last time I was there it was every taxi who refused to put on the meter and wanted a flat 500baht including toll fees. The actual metered prices was around 330 baht and the tolls were around 120 baht, a total of 450 baht. If the meter goes on then I’d give the driver 800-1,000 baht including tolls. Meter off they get the 500 they demanded.

  45. Have a look at past vids by Chris Parker called 'giving it back'. He regularly on his channel - Rethaired working for you - gives back the money he earns from the channel and donations from other Expats to poor Thais in need. I wish the Thai Govt, especially Anutin, would acknowledge what many Expats living in Thailand are doing for the Thai people. This is just a small sample - there are good things being done all over Thailand by Expats in their local areas. Not all Expats are scum Sexpats and p**heads partying in the streets - many Expats are good decent people, and many of them are married to Thais and are supporting them and their broader family - especially now in this time of need.
