Ben Stokes’ home burglarised during Pakistan tour

Jewellery and personal items taken; family unharmed but shaken

Ben Stokes, captain of the England Test cricket team, revealed that masked intruders broke into his home in Castle Eden, County Durham, while he was in Pakistan earlier this month. On 17 October, burglars took jewellery, valuables, and numerous personal items, as Stokes shared online. Stokes expressed that many of these items hold deep sentimental value, describing them as irreplaceable.

The cricket star clarified that his main aim in sharing the photographs of the stolen goods is to help catch the culprits, not to retrieve the items. He highlighted the distressing nature of the crime, noting that it occurred while his wife and two young children were in the house. Fortunately, his family was unharmed physically, though the incident has understandably affected their emotional and mental wellbeing. He expressed gratitude towards the police for their exceptional support and diligent efforts to apprehend those responsible.

In additional posts, Stokes shared images of the stolen items, which include unique jewellery pieces and his OBE medal. Among the possessions is a gold necklace with a lion pendant engraved with ‘some may be better but none will be braver’, and a custom-made gold ring by MJ Jones, featuring the England cricket logo surrounded by diamonds. Other taken items include a Christian Dior handbag with his wife Clare’s initials, and two necklaces: one with a dark gemstone and another with a diamond-encrusted ‘4C’ design, linked to the 4CAST entrepreneurial collective he established with players Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad. Stokes urged anyone with information to contact Durham Constabulary.

Stokes, who missed England’s first Test match in Pakistan due to injury, was back to lead the team in Multan when the burglary occurred. The match, won by Pakistan, concluded the day following the break-in.
