Trump’s iPhone wallpaper sparks social media debate

Former President's iPhone wallpaper of himself raises eyebrows online

A vigilant social media user has ignited a discussion after allegedly identifying the wallpaper on former US President Donald Trump’s iPhone. On 5 November, many US citizens will head to their local polling stations to vote in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

As Election Day approaches, candidates like Donald Trump, 78, and Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, remain busy trying to garner public support. Earlier this month, Harris joined Alex Cooper, 30, host of the Call Her Daddy podcast, to talk about women’s rights and giving a voice to the vulnerable.

Meanwhile, Trump visited a McDonald’s restaurant, seemingly to take on a shift at the fast-food chain. The Republican, making his third bid for office, stated he wanted to work at McDonald’s because he believed a story about the VP working there was false.

Harris’ campaign had released an advert claiming the California-born politician worked at McDonald’s while earning her degree at Howard University. Trump insisted his opponent was lying, without providing evidence, stating in his video: “I’ve always wanted to work at McDonald’s, I never did. I’m running against somebody that said she did but it turned out to be a totally phoney story.”

This isn’t the only recent jab Trump has taken at his rival. Earlier this week, the 45th President collaborated with popular prank YouTubers, the ‘Nelk Boys’. In a clip posted to their Instagram profiles, the creators handed Trump a blank book, claiming it was filled with ‘Kamala’s greatest achievements’.

A photo of the Nelk Boys and Trump on a plane has since circulated on social media—not for the reason you might expect. The image shows them smiling together with an iPhone and a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat on the table in front of them. An X user, formerly known as Twitter, reposted the image, zooming in on what appears to be Trump’s iPhone lock screen.

“Of course. Trump’s cell phone lock screen background image is a picture of himself. Not his wife, not his children, not his grandchildren… himself,” the user wrote. The Daily Mail notes that the picture Trump reportedly used as his phone’s background was taken on 19 July 2019. The image was captured during a departure from the South Lawn of the White House before Trump traveled to New Jersey for a dinner at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

Social media users have since debated the presumed iPhone lock screen, with one commenting: “My lock screen is of my dog. Because people suck.” Another wrote: “I guess you can cry if you think it’ll make you feel better.” “Haha! Not even the generic lock screens,” said someone else, while another added: “His favourite person.”
