Police seek suspects and motive in Detroit drive-by shooting
A young man, 18, lost his life in a drive-by shooting in Detroit on Monday afternoon, while another youth sustained injuries in the incident, police reported. The Detroit Police Department confirmed the victims were targeted in the shooting, with the younger man succumbing to his injuries and a 19-year-old currently in stable condition at the hospital.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. outside an apartment complex near Fenelon Street and Nevada Avenue, located on Detroit’s east side. Authorities have not determined if the victims resided in the apartment complex. “A vehicle drove through the complex and opened fire on these individuals,” explained Detroit Police Commander Rebecca McKay at a press conference.
No suspects have been apprehended yet. McKay stated that investigators are actively searching for suspects and trying to establish a motive for the crime. “Our prayers and condolences go out to the families,” McKay added. “As with any crime in Detroit, we need community assistance. If you see something, say something. We follow up on every lead we receive.”
