Mummified body found in Runcorn flat after seven months
Mummified remains discovered in Cheshire flat; no suspicious circumstances found
Police discovered the mummified body of Amanda Warburton, 52, in her Runcorn, Cheshire flat, seven months after she was last seen. The inquest revealed no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
Cheshire Coroner’s Court heard that Ms Warburton’s body, found on September 17, was severely decomposed. A family member alerted the police after noticing her window remained closed for two weeks.
Officers discovered the New Zealand-born woman at 5.47pm. The October 16 inquest described Ms Warburton as a “loner.” Senior Coroner Jacqueline Devonish stated the cause of death could not be determined due to severe decomposition and mummification, leading to an open conclusion.

Ms Warburton’s sister, residing in Queensland, Australia, started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her return to the UK. She expressed her grief on social media, saying, “It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beautiful sister Amanda (Mandy). We are broken. We love you enormously and we will miss you so much.”
Police noted the sparsely furnished property on Norton Hill contained little food and a pile of mail behind the door. Two newspapers dated February 18 and milk with a February 19 expiry were found. A sticker on the front door requested contact with the housing association.
Neighbours reported not seeing Ms Warburton for about a year and recently noticed a strange smell. Police described her body as extremely decomposed, suggesting she had died around seven months earlier. There were no suspicious circumstances.
