Lucid dream communication breakthrough by California start-up

California start-up enables message exchange in lucid dreams

A significant scientific breakthrough has been achieved in the field of dreams. A California-based start-up claims to have demonstrated that lucid dreams can facilitate a new form of communication.

REMspace, a neurotechnology company focused on sleep enhancement and lucid dreaming, used specialised equipment to induce lucid dreams in two participants. During these dreams, the participants managed to exchange a message.

Lucid dreams, as defined by REMspace, have two main characteristics: full conscious awareness during the dream and recognition of a separation from the physical body. Essentially, a person realises they are dreaming while still in the dream state.

Researchers confirmed the communication between the two participants by tracking their brain waves and other polysomnographic data. When the first participant entered a lucid dream state, a server generated a random word in Remmyo, the first electromyographical language, and delivered it through earbuds. The participant then repeated the word within their dream.

Eight minutes later, the second participant also entered a lucid dream and received the stored message. This was verified when she woke up and shared the word she received. Interestingly, the participants were in separate houses, not even in the same room.

The study took place on September 24. Michael Raduga, founder and CEO of REMspace, commented on the breakthrough: “Yesterday, communicating in dreams seemed like science fiction. Tomorrow, it will be so common we won’t be able to imagine our lives without this technology.”

He added that the discovery opens the door to numerous commercial applications, potentially reshaping how we think about communication and interaction in the dream world. Raduga believes that REM sleep and phenomena like lucid dreams will become the next major industry after AI.

The success of this experiment follows five years of meticulous research and technological development. REMspace now aims to enable real-time communication in lucid dreams, with a goal to achieve this by 2025.

Stay tuned for further updates.
