Iran claims successful strikes, Israel and US vow strong response

Iran launched over 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Iran would “pay the price” for this assault.

The majority of these missiles were intercepted by Israel and its ally, the US, both of whom have warned of retaliation. Iranian officials claimed that their Fattah missiles successfully struck 90 per cent of the intended military targets.

US President Joe Biden expressed strong support for Israel, stating, “The attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective, and this is a testament to Israeli military capability and the US military.”

He further emphasised, “The United States is fully, fully, fully supportive of Israel.”

Iran described the attack as a defensive measure in response to Israeli actions against militant leaders and strikes in Lebanon.

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araqchi indicated that the attacks had concluded unless provoked again by Israel.

On Tuesday, Israel continued its operations in Lebanon, leading to the deaths of fifty-five people and injuring 156 others, as reported by the Lebanese health ministry.

The U.N. Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to address the rising tensions in the Middle East.

An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed to AFP that ground invasions into Lebanon had begun and that Israel would continue its strikes across the region in response to Iran’s actions.
