Pakistan witnesses surge in terror attacks, 84 dead in last month

Terror attacks escalate in Pakistan, Balochistan and KP regions severely affected

Pakistan, which often supports and shelters terrorism against India, has experienced a surge in terror attacks over the past two months. An Islamabad-based think tank, the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), reported 59 attacks last month, resulting in 84 deaths.

The Balochistan region, still reeling from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) militants’ attacks that killed nearly 40 people in Musakhail and Qalat districts, remains a hotspot for violence.

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security reported that the United Baloch Army (UBA) attacked a security patrol in Nemoragh, Qalat district, killing three security personnel. In Turbat district, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) launched a grenade attack on a security checkpoint, causing unspecified casualties. The Pakistani government has yet to confirm the exact numbers.

The PIPS report highlighted the BLA’s increasing capabilities, including the use of advanced weaponry and coordinated assaults. Despite being rich in resources, Balochistan remains economically neglected, fueling local discontent.

The BLA has adopted new strategies, such as targeting Punjabis on highways by checking identity cards, which may further strain relations with the central government.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), unidentified terrorists killed a police officer in Mandan on Sunday. On the same day, an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown attackers exploded in Salarzai, killing one person and injuring two others. Last month, KP saw 29 terrorist attacks, resulting in 25 deaths and 80 injuries, as reported by Dawn.

Groups including the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group, Lashkar-i-Islam, and Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) were responsible for these attacks.
