The Israeli army, contacted by AFP, declined to comment without the geographic coordinates of Muharab’s death and his identification. An army spokesperson stated, “The army has never, and will never, deliberately target journalists.”
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned Muharab’s killing, describing it as an “assassination” and alleging an “organised campaign” by the Israeli army to kill journalists in Gaza. Gaza journalist Ibrahim Qanan, present at the hospital, accused Israel of trying to “kill the truth” by eliminating witnesses to events in Gaza.
The Israeli army has previously killed several journalists in Gaza, accusing them of ties to Hamas or Islamic Jihad. The Committee to Protect Journalists reported on Monday that “at least 113 journalists and media workers” have died since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7.
