Irish rider Louis O'Regan, 43, dies in Manx Grand Prix accident

A motorcyclist has lost his life following an accident during the Manx Grand Prix qualifying, according to the organisers. Louis O’Regan, who was 43, succumbed to injuries sustained during the first qualifying session of the 2024 event. The Irishman, residing in Didcot, Oxfordshire, had been a seasoned participant since his debut in the 2013 Newcomers A Race. In 2019, he achieved a personal best lap speed of 114.7mph in the Junior Race.

The organisers expressed their profound sadness and extended condolences to Louis’s partner Sarah, his family, and his friends. The accident took place at Kate’s Cottage, approximately 30 miles into the 37-mile course around the Isle of Man, on Sunday. Road closures were enforced after the incident.

The race will continue on Monday at 6.30pm and will run until the following Monday. In last year’s event, 69-year-old Iain Bainbridge from County Durham, who was also a frequent competitor since his 2005 debut, died during his second qualifying session.
