King requests daily updates on UK unrest

King stays informed as UK unrest continues with arrests and police action

The King has requested daily updates on the unfolding unrest across the UK. He is reportedly engaging with the issues privately. His involvement in community cohesion and interfaith dialogue is well-documented.

Thousands of specialist police have been deployed tonight due to concerns about further disturbances. The unrest began after three young girls were stabbed in Southport last week, amidst false rumours that the suspected attacker was an asylum seeker who had arrived by boat. Many businesses have decided to close early in case gatherings turn violent again.

A list of immigration solicitors’ firms and advice agencies was circulated in chat groups as potential targets, with instructions for people to “mask up.” The prime minister and senior police officers have warned that the law will be enforced swiftly against offenders. Dozens of individuals accused of participating in the violence have already appeared in courts nationwide.

Derek Drummond, 58, has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to violent disorder and assaulting a police officer in Southport. Liam Riley, 41, was jailed for 20 months after admitting to violent disorder and a racially aggravated public order offence in Liverpool city centre. Declan Geiran, 29, also pleaded guilty to involvement in the violence in Liverpool and sending threatening messages. He was caught on CCTV setting a police van on fire and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.

The unrest has sparked a dispute among Tory leadership rivals. Robert Jenrick suggested that people shouting “Allahu Akbar” on the streets should be “immediately arrested,” which Mel Stride criticised as “unwise and insensitive.” Former Tory Foreign Office minister Lord Ahmad said Jenrick’s comments fuelled Islamophobia during a period of high communal tensions. Following the backlash, Jenrick posted a video on X showing a march in Bolton where people chanted the phrase. He noted that while “Allahu Akbar” is spoken peacefully by millions of British Muslims, the aggressive chanting seen in the video was intimidating.
