Far-right rioters cry for mothers during UK court hearings

Hundreds arrested as far-right riots spread across UK cities

Individuals accused of participating in far-right riots across the UK have been showing signs of distress, calling out for their mothers during court appearances.

Authorities have arrested at least 378 people in connection with the anti-immigrant and anti-Islam riots.

Hundreds of rioters disrupted a vigil for Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9, in Southport on Tuesday. The disturbances spread to London, Manchester, Hartlepool, and Aldershot on Wednesday.

Further clashes occurred in Liverpool, Blackpool, Hull, Stoke-on-Trent, Leeds, Nottingham, Bristol, and Belfast.

In Liverpool, Liam Riley, 41, of Walton Road, admitted to violent disorder and racially-aggravated threatening behaviour. Prosecutor Joshua Sanderson-Kirk stated Riley was part of a group of about 100 people. He resisted dispersal, shouting at officers and waving his arms before being detained. Riley, who appeared intoxicated, had a poster reading “This is our city” and a St George’s Flag. He was remanded in custody for sentencing on August 30.

Lloyd Killner, 35, from Lincoln, Lincolnshire, pleaded not guilty to violent disorder in Liverpool city centre. He was also remanded in custody to appear on August 30.

Declan Geiran, 29, of Kelso Road, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and arson. Sanderson-Kirk described how Geiran set fire to a police van using an implement. Geiran was tracked and arrested via CCTV. He was remanded in custody for sentencing on August 30.

Ryan Sheers, 28, admitted to violent disorder at Teesside Magistrates’ Court. Sheers, a former McDonald’s worker, was filmed insulting police officers and was bitten by a police dog. He was remanded in custody.

Steven Mailen, 54, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Teesside Magistrates’ Court. Mailen engaged in confrontations with officers in Hartlepool and was struck by a baton. He was remanded in custody.

Jimmy Bailey, 45, of Station Avenue, Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, pleaded not guilty to violent disorder in Liverpool. He was remanded in custody to appear on August 30.

John O’Malley, 43, of Cambridge Gardens, Southport, admitted to violent disorder. Identified by the public from footage, he was remanded in custody to appear on August 29.

Gareth Metcalfe, 44, also of Cambridge Gardens, Southport, was charged with violent disorder. He was remanded in custody to appear on August 29.

A 30-year-old man from Hartlepool pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was remanded in custody until sentencing on September 2.

Tamsyn Cerr, 21, of Firby Close, Hartlepool, did not enter a plea to violent disorder and was remanded in custody until September 2.

William Nelson Morgan, 69, admitted to violent disorder and possessing an offensive weapon. Identified in a crowd throwing bricks, he was remanded in custody to appear on August 29.

A 14-year-old boy in Liverpool pleaded guilty to violent disorder. He was seen setting off fireworks towards members of the public and police. The boy, who has no previous convictions, was released on bail until August 27 for sentencing.

Curtis Coulson, 30, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court and denied affray. He was refused bail and will be tried in September.

Bernard Lavery, 34, of Belfast, was charged with taking part in an unnotified public procession. Described by police as playing a significant role, Lavery was denied bail and remanded in custody until September 2.

Ellis Wharton, 22, of Selwyn Street, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to burglary and was remanded in custody to appear on August 29.

Simeon Eric McCullough, 46, of Schomberg Drive, Belfast, was charged with disorderly behaviour and resisting police. He was refused bail.

Gary Creighton, 38, of Inishowen Drive, Belfast, faced multiple charges including possession of an offensive weapon and was refused bail.

Derek Drummond, 58, of Pool Street, Southport, admitted to violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker. He was remanded in custody for sentencing on August 29.

Brian Gilby, 27, of no fixed abode, denied violent disorder but admitted to burglary. He was remanded in custody until September 2.

Leanne Hodgson, 43, of Holborn Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to violent disorder. She was remanded in custody for sentencing on September 2.

Adam Wharton, 28, of Selwyn Street, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to burglary and was remanded in custody for sentencing on August 29.

Andrew Smith, 41, of High Street East, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was remanded in custody until September 2.

Shaun Doran, 48, of Villette Road, Sunderland, denied violent disorder and was remanded in custody until September 2.

Clinton Morrison, 31, of Saint Barnabas Way, Sunderland, did not enter a plea to violent disorder and was remanded in custody for a hearing on September 2.

Josh Kellett, 29, of Southcroft, Washington, pleaded guilty to violent disorder. He was remanded in custody until sentencing on September 2.

Gareth Rigby was fined for using threatening words or behaviour.

Hamza Mohammed, 23, a salesman from Bolton, was charged with possessing fireworks.
