A lorry has fallen 60 metres from the Thelwall Viaduct on the M6 in Cheshire, landing on an embankment below. The incident occurred near Warrington between junctions 20 and 21 at around 6.50pm on Monday. The driver appears to have avoided life-threatening injuries and was rescued by fire crews who descended to the vehicle.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service utilised water to cool the lorry and contained a fuel leak of approximately 1,000 litres. Authorities have urged motorists to steer clear of the area.
Three northbound lanes will stay closed until Tuesday morning, leaving only one lane open with a reduced speed limit.
