HBO launches search for next Harry Potter cast in UK and Ireland
Open casting call for Harry Potter TV adaptation begins in UK and Ireland
HBO has commenced the search for the next Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger for its TV adaptation of the renowned movie series. The studio confirmed the open casting call to Variety on Tuesday following an online announcement by Cast It Talent.
Producers are seeking children aged nine to eleven, living in the UK and Ireland, for roles in April next year. The casting process aims to be inclusive of all races, ethnicities, and gender identities.
Applicants need to submit two videos. The first should feature a short poem or story, which can come from a favourite book, a beloved play, or be self-created, but must not be from Harry Potter. Recording on a phone is acceptable. The second video should include personal details, such as date of birth, height, and residence, and a description of a close family member, friend, or pet. The first video should be no longer than 30 seconds, and the second should be a maximum of one minute, both in the applicant’s natural accent. The submission deadline is 31 October.

J.K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books, published from 1997 to 2007, were adapted into eight films between 2001 and 2011, grossing over $7.7 billion (£6.17 billion) globally.
When the new series was announced last year, Max, Warner Bros’ streaming service, promised a fresh cast to lead a new generation of fans, maintaining the beloved characters, detailed settings, and dramatic locations that have captivated audiences for over 25 years.
The seven Harry Potter books have sold over 500 million copies worldwide.
