A Delta Airbus A350 and an Endeavor Bombardier CRJ900 jet collided on the tarmac at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday morning. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that Delta Air Lines Flight 295’s wingtip struck the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526 while taxiing for departure.

The Delta Airbus A350 was bound for Tokyo, while the Endeavor Bombardier CRJ900 was set to depart for Lafayette, Louisiana. The incident occurred at the intersection of two taxiways at around 10:10 a.m. local time. The FAA has announced an investigation into the incident.

Photos circulating on social media depict significant damage to the tail of one aircraft, with its vertical stabilizer appearing to be severed. Meteorologist Jason Adams described the incident on X, stating, “Taxiing out for the flight from Atlanta to Louisiana, another plane clipped the back of our plane. Very jarring, metal scraping sounds then loud bangs. We’re fine. No fire or smoke.”

Delta confirmed that the wing of the Airbus A350, departing as DL295 to Tokyo-Haneda, collided with the tail of the CRJ-900, DL5526 to Lafayette, Louisiana. The collision caused damage to both the tail of the regional jet and the wing of the A350. No injuries have been reported. There were 221 passengers on DL295 and 56 on DL5526. No further operational adjustments are anticipated.

Delta issued another statement later, mentioning that arrangements had been made for passengers to board alternate aircraft departing Tuesday afternoon. The airline apologised for the inconvenience. Delta also stated that it is cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other authorities while its TechOps teams prepare to move both aircraft to maintenance hangars.
