Thailand Privilege visa explained
Thailand Privilege is run by the Thailand Privilege Card Company, a state owned operator, and it sells long stay convenience. Membership lasts 5 to 20 years depending on tier, and the visa that comes with it removes the paperwork burden that defines most other Thai long stay routes.
The trade is simple. Other visas ask you to prove income, pension or investment. The Thailand Privilege visa asks only that you pay the membership fee and clear a criminal background check. That is why it attracts people who want certainty and zero admin, and why it costs several times more than any alternative.
One structural point confuses almost everyone. The membership itself does not renew. When your 5, 10, 15 or 20 year term ends, you apply again at whatever the price is then. The visa inside the membership is what gets reissued, every five years, for as long as your membership runs.
Membership tiers and prices
The Thailand Privilege visa comes in five tiers, all on sale at the same time. These are the fees listed on thailandprivilege.co.th, the official operator site, checked in August 2026.

Bronze is the entry point at 650,000 THB for five years, with no annual privilege points. Gold costs 900,000 THB for the same five years but adds 20 points a year to spend on services. Platinum, Diamond and Reserve scale up the term, the points and the family option, and Reserve is invitation only, a label the operator’s own membership agreements attach to the tier.
Every application also carries a 50,000 THB application fee, announced by the operator and written into the membership agreements. It is paid when you apply, refunded if you are rejected, and credited against the membership fee if you are approved, so budget for it as part of the membership price rather than an extra.
The Platinum and Diamond family rates are published in the operator’s membership agreements: 1,000,000 THB and 1,500,000 THB per additional member, both including VAT. The Reserve rate is the standard figure quoted through authorised agents, so confirm it before you commit. An additional member, which the operator calls a Next Member, must be a legitimate spouse, child or parent, a legally adopted child or a civil union partner of the main member, proven with a marriage or birth certificate. The operator also runs time limited Next Member promotions at flat rates, so ask what is on offer before paying the standard rate. Bronze and Gold take no additional members at all; their agreements simply contain no such option.
You are not locked into your first choice either. The agreements set out an upgrade route: give written notice at least 6 months before your term ends, pay an upgrade fee, then pay the difference between the tier fees. From Bronze the upgrade fee is 150,000 THB, and the top up ranges from 250,000 THB for Gold to 4,350,000 THB for Reserve, all including VAT. Platinum and Diamond members pay a 100,000 THB upgrade fee plus the difference, and moving into Reserve still requires an invitation.
If you researched this programme before October 2023 you may remember packages called Elite Family Excursion or Elite Ultimate Privilege, or a price range of 600,000 THB to 2,400,000 THB. Those packages are discontinued. The official site lists only the five tiers above.
How the visa works
Every Thailand Privilege visa tier carries the same travel document. It is a five year multiple entry Privilege Entry visa, and each entry stamps you in for 1 year. The visa gets reissued within your membership, so a 20 year Reserve member holds four PE visas back to back.
You do not need to leave the country every year. When your one year stay runs out, you can extend in country for another year for 1,900 THB, a service the concierge arranges. The details sit on the operator’s living in Thailand page.

One hard limit: this is not a work visa. The PE visa is a tourist class entry and carries no employment rights. If you plan to work for a Thai employer you need a different route entirely.
What you actually get
The headline benefits are airport and admin services. Members get fast track immigration lanes and short haul airport transfers by car, plus a contact centre and a personal liaison at immigration appointments.
The operator’s published airport package covers a personalised welcome at the gate, an electric cart between gates, fast track immigration, premium lounge access and a limousine transfer, with Express Personal Assistance staff at Suvarnabhumi and Phuket International on international flights. Two booking rules matter in practice: airport services must be reserved at least 24 hours ahead, and the transfer service is capped at two uses a day. Miss the booking window and you queue like everyone else.
The concierge is the part long stayers actually use. Staff assist with the immigration desk, the driving licence office and opening a Thai bank account, three tasks that eat days when you do them alone. For many members this, not the airport limousine, is what the fee buys.
Points are the discretionary layer. Gold and above earn an annual points allowance, spent on services such as spa treatments, golf and health checks. Be realistic about them: points run out, Bronze gets none, and the transfers cover short journeys, not a ride to Phuket. The membership also does not include health insurance, and the programme does not require any, so budget for health insurance in Thailand separately.
Who qualifies and who gets rejected
There is no income or asset test for the Thailand Privilege visa. Any nationality can apply, and the operator checks character rather than wealth. The disqualifiers reported consistently by application agents are an overstay record in Thailand, a criminal record or bankruptcy history, and having been declared of unsound mind.
You apply direct with the operator or through an authorised agent, and the application runs through a background check that takes roughly one to three months. You do not need to be in Thailand to apply; presence is only required when the visa is issued.
Rejection after a failed background check means the membership fee is never collected and the 50,000 THB application fee is refunded, but the time is gone, and an overstay history you forgot about will surface. If your record is not clean, take advice before you apply rather than after a refusal.

Who the Thailand Privilege visa suits
Thailand Privilege is money for convenience. It suits people who fail, or refuse to document, the tests other visas set, and who value never queueing at immigration. It makes least sense for people who qualify easily elsewhere.
Run the honest comparison before you pay. The LTR visa grants ten years for a fraction of the Privilege fee, but you must meet its income or investment criteria. If you clear those, LTR is the better buy and Privilege is paying a premium for concierge service.
The retirement visa is the cheapest long stay route if you are 50 or over and can show the funds, at the cost of annual renewals, bank letters and doing your own 90 day reports. Plenty of retirees run that paperwork for years without trouble. Privilege exists for the ones who would rather pay 650,000 THB than ever think about it.
So the decision flow is short. If you qualify for LTR, take LTR. If you are over 50, tolerate paperwork and want the lowest cost, take retirement. If neither fits, or your time is worth more than the fee, the Thailand Privilege visa is the route built for you.
How to apply
The Thailand Privilege visa application is the simplest of any Thai long stay route, which is much of the point.

A passport copy and a photograph, direct or through an authorised agent, together with the 50,000 THB application fee. The fee is refunded if you are rejected and credited against the membership fee if you are approved.
- Wait for the background check
Run through the relevant agencies. Expect one to three months.
- Receive the approval letter
Then pay the balance of the membership fee by transfer or card.
- Have the visa affixed
At a Thai embassy, at the airport on arrival or at immigration in Thailand. Membership starts when the visa is issued.
Two common snags are worth planning around. First, if you already hold a non immigrant visa, agents consistently report that you must cancel it before the PE visa can be issued, because you cannot hold two active visas at once. Time the switch so you do not gap your permission to stay. Second, a passport with under five years validity means a reissued visa and transfer formalities mid membership, so applying on a fresh passport saves a job later.

Can I get a refund or transfer my membership?
Plan on neither. The application fee is refunded only if the operator rejects you. Once you are approved, the membership fee is paid on a non refundable basis, and the agreements forfeit it if a membership is cancelled for a false declaration or breach. The only refund the terms contemplate is a return of the remaining fee if the operator has to terminate memberships because of government action, and nothing is returned to your estate if you die during the term. Privileges are personal rights, and the current five tiers have no transfer mechanism; only the discontinued lifetime era memberships can be transferred, at fees the operator revised from June 2026.
How long does approval take?
Plan for one to three months. The background check is the long pole; once the approval letter arrives, payment and visa issuance move quickly.
I qualify for both Privilege and LTR, which should I pick?
Usually LTR. It costs a fraction of any Privilege tier and grants a ten year stay. Privilege only wins that comparison if the concierge service, airport handling and zero documentation are worth the difference to you.
Can Privilege members buy property in Thailand?
