Phuket Lifestyle: SKÃ…L members give up their shirts for charity
PHUKET: Phuket’s Skål club is planning some playful revelations at their gala charity fundraiser on Saturday, December 8, at Bliss Beach Club on Bang Tao beach.
The Full Monty is the name of the event and yes, it means that some of the island’s most attractive hotel managers will be taking it all off to benefit both the club’s scholarship fund and the Phuket Has Been Good to Us Foundation.
“We have a fundraising dinner every year for our members to raise money to help support two schools in Khao Lak and another one in Rawai. This year we’ve decided to invite the Phuket community to an event where they can help support these programs with the purchase of raffle tickets and entry to a very fun evening when some well known hotel managers will be sacrificing their modesty to aid our children’s program,” says Claude Sauter, President of Phuket’s Skål Club.
Skål is an international hospitality social club formed in 1932.
Phuket’s Skål chapter is only one of 450 clubs worldwide in 85 countries and a membership exceeding 20,000.
Urs Aebi, Secretary of Skål Phuket says, “We have nearly 60 members that range from travel agents to hotel managers. We meet once a month to enjoy a good meal and discuss issues facing the local hospitality industry.
This year we decided to put on our own version of the Full Monty, the popular English movie featuring normal men who strip down to their Full Monty to help raise money to change the lives of needy local children.”
DJ Doris from 91.5FM will be providing the music for the event and his team will be handling the evening’s entertainment.
Bliss Beach Club and BB & B beverage suppliers will be providing a family style dinner. Raffle ticket sales will enable guests to stay in some of Phuket’s top resorts and dine in some of the island’s finest restaurants.
It’s been fifteen years since the English production of The Full Monty became the highest grossing film in UK history with a box office gross of US$250 million, having been made on a budget of just US$3.5mn.
The event is sponsored by the Phuket Gazette, PGTV and the Gazette’s ‘Phuket Today’ show, aired daily on UBC/True Visions, channel 99.
