Earlier this month, Premchai Karnasuta was jailed for 3 years and 3 months for hunting and killing protected wildlife in the Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary. The offences took place nearly 4 years ago. The Bangkok Post reports that Premchai’s wife, Kanita Karnasuta, has written to Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin to request that her husband be transferred to hospital for medical treatment. The 66 year old is currently being held at Thong Pha Phum Prison, in the western province […]

He is serving time, he just needs hospital treatment....🥴

Whilst agreeing with the basic thrust of this and your earlier posts, @Transam, right from seeing the report's headline, my question is "aren't there qualified medical staff in most, if not all, Thai prisons, to whom Premchai's need - or not - for hospitalisation would be evident - evident to all, not only his wife?"

Other news sources report that he will be treated in prison hospital, and only if they are unable to treat him, will it be up to doctors discretion.

Further, no special privileges for this guy.

He defintely has some health conditions but they probably do not deserve a gold ticket to a nice single comfortable hospital room. It would be interesting to see what his living conditions look like in the prison. Money can buy you a lot of comfort, and I would think his rich hi-so status has a different area they all stay at. So bring in the medical attention he needs there but no special favors for him to go outside should be awarded.

Dunno, but seeing the pics of the inside of Thai prisons, think I would go with the ladies request.

I doubt his quarters are "typical" given his capacity to pay . Even so and especially so why should he get preferential treatment?

I live near the Thong Pha Phum prison he is in and as you'd expect, it's a grim looking place at least from the outside.

As for medical treatment the district hospital is not far and several times when I've been in there, there have been several shackled prisoners brought in for treatment, 2 guards to one inmate, including females.

The instant unease on the general public waiting to be seen is palpable which is probably why the felons are escorted to the front of the queue. Wife claims if they are heavily shackled they are conviced of violent crimes or murder. Actually I felt sorry for them, but probaly shouldn't. The huge public loss of face on their part was obvious.

Not surprised he wants to move, although after his treatment which he is entitled to, he's likely to be back in his cell pronto.

Every prisoner is heavy shackled, and their definition of a violent crime is defamation or section 112.

Given this man’s physical condition prior to the offence it is obvious that he has neither worried or done anything about it for many years.

To now expect special treatment for the same ailments smacks of trying to worm his way out of a prison cell.

Let the (honest) prison doctors decide what treatment he gets

Agreed - AFAIK that's standard when prisoners are moved outside, unless the prisoner has 'trustee' status.

I used to see some over in the Sukhumvit area with no chains on, but the catch was they were in the storm drain sewers cleaning that gross toxic stuff out literally up to their neck in sludge. Enough just to see it to make you vomit.

The guy wants to be transferred to a hospital, probably a private hospital,  meaning he wants to stay in the hospital and not go back to jail. Ever. Daily visitors, outside food, private room and pretty much anything he wants. Probably won’t even be chained to the bed unlike every prisoner that stays in an external hospital overnight. Bang Khwan and Khlong Prem prisons in BKK have a fully staffed and equipped “proper” hospital on the prison grounds with medical doctors, psychologists and dentists working full time. Transfer him there if he must go somewhere. Savesthe expense of having  guards 24x7 at an external hospital just for him.

Diabetes (already some amputation), hearth condition... you think prison hospital is able to handle this?
I have a friend, cardiologe, and often prison inmates are transported to the hospital where he works for diagnose and treatment. And this is Western Europe, so do you think it is possible in Thailand?
They don't have to free him, just to hospital for treatment.

I have not heard of prisons here having Deluxe Wings, but you could be right...😋

But, I don't think his wife is asking for preferential treatment, she is asking for treatment, now if you know that prisoners don't get treated for problems, then that is something else.

If this bloke dies because he was not treated as asked, what would you say then...?

I would say that as a person who blatantly performed  illegal acts that  ended  up depriving him  of social freedom  is  no more entitled to preferential treatment on the  basis of  social status or  wealth than the poorest  that is imprisoned for incapacity to pay off minor bogus charges brought  at the insistence of influencial others !

" now if you know that prisoners don't get treated for problems" ? I have no  explicit  knowledge at all but does that make a difference  as to "preferential" treatment requests?

This individual  by way of  status and wealth  dragged others into  a situation resulting in prolonged  legal investigations and debate that further resulted in incarceration of others on behalf of satisfying his presumably well paid loyalty to ego ! No sympathy all around for outcome . Especially  in comparison to the  gross insult to the multitude of those who get put away for mere slights of  failure in aquiesence to the "authorities" !

his wife is asking for medical help, now if folk here are saying he shouldn't have medical help then you  are worse than him.

He is getting medical help and will be taken to an outside hospital for treatment when and if it is necessary. All prisoners are taken to an outside public hospital for diagnosis and treatment if the prison facilities are inadequate  (x-rays, operations, optometrist etc) His wife is asking he be TRANSFERRED to a hospital. As in moved out of jail. This has happened before with criminals using influential connections to be moved to a private room in a hospital and never going back to prison. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen again and Mr Black Panther gets well so he can enjoy every day of his prison sentence in prison.
