It is the fact of having a PCR test result come back positive after the person has already departed early that made this an issue.

I know two people who have entered under the Thai Pass criteria and the staff of the SHA Hotel they stayed at told them they were welcome to go wherever they wished so long as they checked out after their PCR result came back. ( pre-assumed negative ?) . There seems to be a lack of respect for the intent of the system at different points .

I doubt that many could be capable or trusted to do the job..😬

That's a fair point, I understand. Is that not trusted to do the job correctly, or not trusted to shoot someone innocently?
Either way, it could still keep people in their hotels unless escorted out by an official,

My brother-in-law had plenty of experience minding people who weren't 100%. when he did his conscription. Most of the second year was spent babysitting his commanding officer's parents, both suffering dementia.

For a country that has so many thousands upon thousands of military conscripts, most of who are doing very little, why not use them to prevent 'quarantinees' from leaving their approved hotels (SHA, or whatever they're called)?

I can't see people being so keen to abscond if there was a gun pointed at them.
An overreaction? Maybe, but it seems 'voluntary quarantine' is open to abuse, not to mention causing an outbreak of the latest strain, potentially affecting thousands.

The Israeli would have been a conscript himself at one time in his life in the IDF Im sure some snotty nosed Thai wouldn't put him off

From another forum website:

An Israeli man who spent four days on the run after escaping from quarantine in Bangkok was arrested in Koh Samui on Wednesday.

The man who had been staying in a hotel in Sukhumvit in Bangkok had also travelled to Pattaya before travelling my mini van to Koh Samui.

Police said the man arrived in Thailand on December 17 and was placed in quarantine at a hotel in the Sukhumvit area. He took an RT-PCR test which came back positive for COVID-19 but the strain has yet to be determined.

The patient then refused treatment before escaping the quarantine facility.

Police said the man then hailed a taxi and travelled to Pattaya where he tried to check in to a hotel but was refused entry as he was unable to provide any travel documentation.

He stayed in Pattaya until December 19 where he rented a mini van and travelled to Chumphon.

Police then picked him up on CCTV in Chumpon and discovered he was travelling to Koh Samui.

On Wednesday, police tracked the man down to a restaurant at Naithon Beach.

Police said the man will be sent to hospital and will be charged with breaching the Communicable Disease Act.

It Had to be a tourist! He certainly won't win a popularity contest! It's been two years....we are over conspiracy theories, bad behaviour, protests, science deniers, antivaxers and any other response other than the following.... wear a mask, get vaccinated and have a booster when you are eligible, keep safe distance from people...if your feeling sick, get tested and isolate until you know the result. If your positive, isolate and seek medical treatment. This has been the message for long enough!!!

It's so easy to say do the right thing, I've called and emailed just about every hospital and clinic, I've emailed both the Cypriot embassy and the British one, I'm trying to get a booster as I have a life threatening illness, I do feel terribly guilty asking for one knowing there are so many Thais that haven't yet had theirs but I've been a coffin dodger for 2 years and would like to keep doing it.
