Thai health officials now say all of the 17 people who came in close contact with the Omicron-infected traveller during his a hotel have tested negative for Covid-19, although one person is in quarantine after inconclusive test results. The American, who travelled from Spain and entered Thailand under the Test & Go quarantine exemption scheme is the first in Thailand to test positive for the Omicron variant. Thing is we might want to actually get omicron. It appears to be far less severe than the delta variant and will give herd immunity.

Puzzling contradiction? Sharp increase in admissions but diagnosis of covid is incidental? So what is the general cause for admissions?

No he didnt say there was a sharp increase in admissions.

Sorry when I first watched it I thought he meant a sharp rise in covid admissions. 

He does however clarify that by asking is omicron causing other conditions to become more severe?

Who knows. I suspect given the levels of HIV in Africa that might be an issue.

Everyone was wearing masks and took other precautions to stop the virus from spreading and thus no one else got infected
