Just as your opinions are useless. I just think it up to them and your $.02 is just that.

Oh dear such an immature statement.

Well the only democratically premier elected by this country had legalised casinos in his plans. Sure it is a centre for illegal activities as it is all over the world. Thailand is the hub of corruption so why should it lose out in this business stream ? Most of the puritanical no hopers who poo poo these ideas are non Thai so if they don't like it they should crawl back to their own countries. Yes it encourages money laundering but just think of the 10s or 100s of thousands of jobs for normal Thais it will create in the service industries. The good far outway the bad in my book. Of course Americans won't like it because they perceive it to be another encroachment of economics  gain in another country but then what goes round comes round.

I see no difference between this and prostitution in that every attempt to suppress it has failed world-wide. And of course, any vice that is banned will eventually come under the control of criminals. People rarely go broke giving the public what it wants.

During the meantime, there is online gambling which usually means an outflow of THB to foreign countries. If you can stop it, then it makes sense to me, to legalise it, remove much of the criminal element, and tax the profits.

Bad idea, I remember in Cambodia at the border a large board stating come back with clothes if you want to cross the border... so imagine if they legalize it .. poor people Thai, they not ready for this  at all they will fall into a hole of debt.. more crimes to get out of the hole of debt , but like stated government only cares to get profit again from foreign visitors... instead of caring their own people... sad but true once again

I agree with your sentiments, but it's already here and it cannot be eradicated. That being so, it makes more sense to me to legislate for it's legalisation.

By the way, when the UK legalised casinos, they made it illegal for the operators to give credit. There were already laws in place to the effect that gambling debts were a matter of honour, and thus not enforceable. This measure went beyond that in that it made it a crime to give credit, which could and did lead to loss of gaming licenses.

Just restrict entry to those wishing to gamble to those with non Thai id/passports.

Not sure about now, but it used to be a condition of the grant of licence in Monte Carlo, that locals were banned from playing.

But the problem your suggestion might produce, is that it will not deal with all the illegal gambling that Thais are already involved in.

In my book casinos would be low on my list for helping ordinary Thais.  Encouraging industrial development and more hi tech skill development would be my preferred approach.

That requires long term investment in education, and TH are a long way off prioritising that idea.

Guess many people do. 😆

Can I ask you to clarify: Are you saying that many of us know a girl in Nong Khai? Or do we all know the same girl? Reason I ask is I too know a girl in Nong Khai, and I think she may be well known. Could it be the same one? Anyone want to compare notes? (hahaha)

Yes, let's have casinos so we can close them for public health reasons.

But when they close for health reasons, at least we can go to a bar and enjoy a cold beer. Oh, wait a minute..........🤔

Agree with you on this. Both  are supposed  to lift the poor and result in moving them into more poverty. A few may benefit but most suffer.

I think the people you are concerned about, already have access to gambling. And if they are addicted, whether gambling is legal or not, you will be helping or harming them.

Legal casinos are a great idea  Its worked so well in my home town of melbourne with crown casino   well it worked well for the money lauderers and their criminal brothers.

Lets be real, there is a snow flakes chance in hell of a legal casinos opening in TH   too much money, brown paper bags being collected by those who should be enforcing the law.

Thailand could be legalising casinos in the near future. The House of Representatives recently voted in favour of setting up a 60-seat extraordinary committee to consider the opening of casinos, which are still illegal in Thailand. Opening the venues for gambling is expected to draw in more income from foreign tourists. 310 MPs voted in favour while 9 were against and 10 abstained. Earlier this year, PM Prayut Chan-o-cha said he would consider the legalisation of gambling. His statements came at a time where numerous Covid-19 clusters were linked to illegal gambling dens and elusive gamblers were said to be […]

Perfectly timed with the non renewal of "entertainment" business licenses in Pattaya beginning in January and the continued squeezing of the industry. In order to attract reputable large casino operators, Thailand needs to begin cleaning up it's global reputation.

That could only commence by sweeping out the patronage system and military support for it and ensure political parties are free of hinderance. Plus of course a judicial system that is not reliant or sponsored by the rich for the rich.  Until that happens Thailand will never loose its reputation of being an unfair,  corrupt and antiquated administrated country.

Gummy is the soothsayer of the north, except he needs to put on his glasses in order to read the small print. That's why he often gets thing wrong.
