According to a Bangkok Post report, Prayut Chan-o-cha says existing screening measures for international arrivals are sufficient, without having to shut down the country. “Harsh measures are not necessary. There are RT-PCR tests and quarantine is required pending test results.” The PM says the government now needs to strike a balance between protecting the health of the public and reviving the economy. Meanwhile, the Bangkok Post reports that officials are still searching for travellers who arrived in Thailand from countries in southern Africa before the emergence of Omicron was known. The PM has asked members of the public to come forward if they know where any of these people might be, but issued reassurances that the variant has not yet been detected in the kingdom.

Well... what about this great app (Mor Chana) that should tell you where abouts to health employees? But let's be sure it's here and cards that are mentioned above will change.

Flip-flopping again, even says "may be delayed", just accept that it may never reopen the bars and nightlife venues anymore, do the Plan B by either go to Phuket, Koh Samui or Khaosan Road by Bangkok, everything open there instead of complaining about closures. Plus the omicron variant on its way to LOS the next couple of weeks.

If not this it would have been something else. Seems it is all about hard lined control without knowing what you are doing from the get go. But in other news people will be scratching their heads for why certain night clubs, drinking establishments and other forms of night time fun venues are allowed to carry on.

The government wants to reclaim Pattaya as a destination for family type tourism

It's close to Bangkok and there is an alternate airport at Utapao.  Makes sense from a business point of view. The Chinese tourist don't want run down bars and Bargirls standing at the door.

Many of Pattaya bars are owned or controlled by foreigners and the Thai government would not loose sleep if they went bankrupt. IMO

And of course as you are well aware this government does not give a damn about your opinion or anybody else's unfortunately for you so like many others, just dream on.

The only way Omicron is scary is that it sounds like some evil robot which will blow up the earth.

Scientists have said that this virus is just very very very very mild. I dont get why there's so much panic in the rest of the world, while in the countries where it was discovered, they are literally saying it's very mild.

This is what I meant before with the annoying panic that hangs around Covid. Fearporn it is!

You seriously can't trust the news with anything about Covid. The constant fishing from the reporters to the scientists like PleAse gIvE uS sOmE Bad NewS. ThERe mUsT bE sOmE Bad nEwS sOmEwHeRE plEeaaasssE

Or anything else. There are six major news outlets and none of them are trustworthy.

However, he says the re-opening of bars and other nightlife venues may have to be delayed.

If he is not ready to announce the delay in re-opening he should not say anything.  All that is accomplished is further doubt in the minds of those who are considering coming to Thailand.  Those that were coming anticipating opening of the nightlife venues may well be inclined to cancel their trips or not make plans at all.

Those that don't care about the night life may also decline to make plans to come to Thailand seeing Thailand's track record of having the Covid of the Day policy changes.

The PM does not care about anything else besides panicking and he should be taking care of its own people in restoring economy and mass tourism. i don't care about the nightlife whether open or not as long as the malls, restaurant, souvenir shop, coffee shop, supermarket maybe 7/11 are open at least I get to eat 3x a day. The less farangs coming to Pattaya, the less chance of another major outbreak coming up

The nightlife in Pattaya is of little or no concern to the Thai tourist industry. The big catch is when the Chinese return. They are where the big money is.

Well his comments were not just about Pattaya but all of Thailand.  Also though Chinese may be the biggest tourist group to Thailand, if you deter any group whether Australian, European, or North America you diminish the overall number of tourists.  As a matter of fact the Chinese are the group would could most easily make last minute plans.  A person traveling from Europe or North America is more likely to cancel plans if they felt that upon arriving in Thailand that there was not the entertainment venues open or worse yet the rules changed.  We had friends who booked a 7 day quarantine and shortly before they were scheduled to come the quarantine period went to 15 days.  It is those kind of constant rule changes that causes tourists irrespective of nationality to just not come.

Officially there's nothing open on Phuket, Koh Samui or Khaosan Rd.
All of these need to wait till the ? of ?. Nobody knows.

There is a lot of vivid life in Phuket, Samui way less. Khaosan I recently saw a video of which was boring af.
