This is a sensible move and in line with other countries, though not as severe as Japan and Israel's measures. Just a footnote...omicron also spells moronic.... so let's not overreact.

According to South African doctors Omicron has very mild sypmptoms (fatique, headaches) without high body temperature or lung damage. No reason for panic.

I wish the whole world could hear you. But the whole world has gone mad and deaf.

The first specimen to be collected with the new variant was on the 9th November so that means it has been present in S. Africa for at least 3 weeks now.

The death rate in SA for that same period daily is either 3, 2 or...0 (yesterday!!) deaths. With 28% vaccinated in S Africa by the way.

I work at Heathrow airport in London, and today 29 Nov there was 2 flights going to South Africa, Cape town and Johannesburg, after speaking to 7 or 8 different South African passengers going back home, all of them said they could not believe the reaction to this new variant, apparently in South Africa people say it's a very mild form and no one dying or being hospitalised.

For the bulk of observations so far indicate that the latest variant of concern is different from others is the symptoms which are basically headache and lack of energy.

Very few flu like symptoms.

However it's strongest affects are in males between 20 and 40 years of age. The vaccinated  seem little affected and this strain seems to be controlled by vaccination so the unvaccinated are at the higher risk category.

Should the continued research reveal and confirm what we know so far then delta/Indian variant is much scarier.
