“77 percent say they strongly disagreed with legalising the production of porn, saying it would cause youth to become preoccupied with sex.” A new Nida Poll has revealed that a majority of Thais disagree with a proposal to legalise the production of porn. You know, for pornographic websites and social media – OnlyFans and PornHub come to mind as modern and highly available versions of the genre. The National Institute of Development Administration asked respondents about the proposal for the legalisation of production of pornographic films. 77 percent said “they strongly disagreed with it”, saying it would cause children and youth […]

These polls are a bunch of crap. It’s probably very hard to get people to admit they really don’t care, because then they would be saying they approve. Wouldn’t want that. Yeah we know it exists as well as prostitution and such, but leave it illegal so we don’t have to take responsibility and “approve” of it. As long as we can still partake and have it unlikely we’ll get caught that is 😅

This poll shows how honest Thais are .

54 % never watched porn online ?

OK, if you say so

I think it's not about whether they watch it themselves or not. If their argument is that it's not good for young teenagers to learn about sex this way, I fully understand them.

But that's a whole different reason as whether someone watches it or not. Everyone watches it and it's normal. But what's not normal is that the most extreme kind of porn is openly available for kids who just got their first phone (13 years old maybe).

Imagine how confused you would be at that age and get to see super extreme porn as your first time seeing porn. That's not good for kids😂

First phone with 13?

Where do you come from,please?

Here more and more get their first phone before they get to school.

Like everywhere else in the world, too.

Nothing easier, not to have to deal with 'em, while watching kid soaps or playing something on the device

Such suspiciously bogus polls [and subsequent thought process] have their their origins among a select puritan circle and shouldn't be given too much credos.

Not terribly reflective of the culture at large.

If I were doing an academic paper and ran across this article, I would not be able to use it. There is source of the poll on the internet. There is no author. There is no date. It's more of a Bangkok Post rumor than anything else.

Complete hypocrisy.

This story is a true depiction of the “saving face” culture the country is pathologically obsessed with.

And of course the pathological obsession that a lot of people have for the Thais quirks. 😄

I find it interesting that they mention concerns about it corrupting youth.

A few years there was an epidemic of gang rapes involving the youth of Cambodia. It should be mentioned that most of the attackers were sons of the more privileged strata of Khmer society, and that the victims were invariably from the opposite end. What would frequently occur is Mr Rich Entitled would chat up a waitress in a resto or similar and arrange a "date" when she finished work, the date really being an ambush.

Because of who these kids were, investigations, let alone prosecutions were unknown. The United Nations took an interest in these events and sent a research team to investigate what appeared to be a Khmer trait of misogyny. Because these kids could act with impunity, they were willing to respond to the researchers. The most common reason given was they wanted to try these things after seeing them on western porn sites. Strangely though, virtually none of those interviewed had ever seen rape or gang-rape vids.

As part of their research they also interviewed a cross-section of men and something like 70% of the men aged under 50 admitted to having forced himself on a  woman either individually, or as part of a gang-rape, and the older men rarely blamed porn-sites. It seemed that much of the attitude of these men was governed by the fact that police corruption meant that even Lo-So men were rarely investigated. Obviously there are factors which might skew that 70% figure, but it appears that generally, Khmer men think of rape as "no big deal", according to this research.

I am sure porn sites do present problems for some, but I think the two most important factors in reducing sexual assaults are fear of being caught, and attitudes to women. In a country where there is rarely an investigation opened, and men think rape so trivial, I don't see that porn had that much of an impact on gang-rapes there.

So Thailand continuing to ban porn will stop the internet showing it?

This phrase sums your comments on Thai quirks.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean people aren't talking about you.

In My Opinion:

Porn seeing and Porn Making is a slow killing disease, It bring addiction.

This is an Business a few gets benefitted and society gets damaged.

NO To Porn and Porn Making.

In General, Women of Thailand are looking for ways to earn money, bring business instead of them banking on foreign and tourist.

It has become an formula to make quick money by some means, this culture in the society is not good.

In General Thai women or self reliant, they need someone to take care of their expenditures, In case if there is a default they do not mind changing their husbands quicker and find another one or find other means to manage their income. At this point i am not pointing at women only, however the men are also so flirty to other ladies they can switch over quickly, the impact is felt by women who have their children and sick parents forcing them to find ways to earn money, this is cycle of life.  The women are highly attached to their families and they take care of them for possible of events where they may have to return to their families.

The world is evolving and the planners of each country needs to think out of box and think of future to help and elevate the society.

As of today, in thailand the following are predominant.

1) if you are child, wealthy you have a mobile phone, online games.

2) if you are a adolescents, you all type of things, which introduce some sort of teaching on sex, by words, dress, by movies, by discussions.

3) if you are a adult, you have a lot of options to find a partner, there is no way to stick to one.

Point 3 brings evolving society and really bad for families where the word Discipline needs to practiced in all forms, in my opinion strongly, the religion should take further step to bring urgently " discipline".

I knew some of this puritan as you called them. All of them and I mean really all of them had wifes, girlfriends, mistresses were member in that luxury clubs/massage clubs in western countries they call it luxury brothels visit karaoke places (in estern countries also called brothels) but preaching ultra conservative views. Their hypocracy is on top of everything. Everybody who experienced the so called Elites is aware about their double standards and they are famous for that from Thailand to Europe. It is always absurd these people talking about drinking and sex and are very well known party animals and have many girls. It seems sometimes they think nobody knows that even when it is common.
