Despite having the second most daily Covid-19 infections in the country today with 441 and becoming the 6th most infected province overall, the Deep South border province of Songkhla is preparing to reopen in December and bracing for a surge of overland international visitors. Local tourism operators are saying they expect around 10,000 tourists from Malaysia and Singapore per week coming into Hat Yai across the Malaysian border. Why would they come?


It looks like 50% of downtown Hat Yai is up for sale or rent. The pubs and karaokes are closed, and you can't even get a beer with your meal - so what's the attraction?

Cheap, not really these days. As for things you can't do, you'd be surprised what you can do in KL or PJ, besides with everything shut the working girls have largely gone home to North & NE Thailand. At least that's the case here in Hat Yai, I would imagine the situation in Danok is even grimmer.

Danok should be a ghost town now. Betong not so bad. Sungei Kolok not sure. Hope some life will come back to these border towns soon once its open. I miss Jaguar and V8 in Danok
