It’s official, sort of. After months of kicking sand around debating if it will really happen, the Centre for Economic Situation Administration has officially approved the Phuket Sandbox plan, an important step forward. The announcement, made late this afternoon, appears to answer the often-posed question if the sandbox plan would ever happen after the much more intense and deadly third wave of Covid-19 swept through Thailand. Following this huge step forward, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration is expected to approve the Phuket Sandbox proposal officially on Monday, followed by the Thai cabinet Tuesday and then publishing in the Royal […]

"It looks like the floodgates to tourism will reopen" This is when they find out if the floodgates were holding anything back. When the rules get published next week it will be very interesting to see what wasn't mentioned in today's announcement.

Hi! Is the plan for permitting transit in Bangkok confirmed? We booked tickets directly from Lufthansa website from London to Phuket (changing airplanes in Frankfurt and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport - this last one operated by Thai Smile)? There is one reservation number only. Are you able to offer any advice or info please?

We are fully vaccinated and we booked 14 nights of SHA Plus Hotel in Phuket for the sandbox program. Our flight reservation is for: leaving London on the June 30th morning, arriving in Frankfurt on June 30th morning, then leaving Frankfurt in the afternoon, arriving in Bangkok on July1st early morning and then arriving in Phuket on July 1st late morning.

Here's a clip from the Thaiger News on 6 June . . .

. . . This approval appears to state that transit via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) WILL be permitted on your way to Phuket (through designated gates designed to keep transiting passengers away from other travellers). . . .

But, with regards to transiting at Frankfurt, you'll probably be best advised to Google re different countries risk categories. Or this Skyscanner site may help . . . https://www.skyscanner.ie/travel-restrictions/thailand/29475320

Hello, Silvia and welcome to Thaiger Talk . . . Let's hope you get your plans sorted!

I found this information online.  I don't know if i can link to the source.  It may not be accurate and has likely been changed or will be changed again.  You might want to verify that transit in BKK will be allowed before you travel.  This source clearly indicates that it won't be allowed.

"You must stay in a SHA+ accredited hotel in Phuket only.

You must fly to Phuket from abroad. No transit in Bangkok.

If you are staying less than 14 days in Phuket, you must fly out of Phuket to an international destination.

If you are staying for 14 days or more in Phuket, you will then be able to travel to any domestic destination in Thailand."
