News Forum - Australian voters sweep conservative government out of power
I never said it was a large swing to Labor but my point was that it was a swing to Labor and enough it appears to give them the ability to govern in their own right, not a swing against them as reported by the Thaiger. -

I’m not a cheapskate or miserly person.
Haggling can sometimes make you look like a complete idiot so be careful. The trick when buying things is to know their true value. If I’m asking £1,000 for something that’s worth £1,300 and you offer £800 at best you’re an idiot, at worst you’re a bottom feeding parasite. Pay the £1,000 with good grace and know you’ve got a bargain. If I’m asking £1,500 by all means bid £1,300 but back it up with some reasoning don’t just scatter gun me. I may counter with the fact that whilst they are usually £1,300 no one else has them in stock so if you want / need it now then you’ll have to cross my palm with £1,500. If you’re on the market buying apples and the vendor is asking market price for what are clearly lovely apples then pay the money. By all means ask for a sample providing you plan to buy enough and if things go well your kilogram may be an apple or two over weight particularly if you’re a regular customer. In the early days of visiting Thailand I found myself haggling over what was the rounding error of a menu tip back home. To the person I was buying from those few baht were the difference between living and existing. I have since changed my ways. How many times have I seen white people screaming at a Thai taxi driver or vendor over less than £5. I can assure you in London it’s a crime to rip someone off for less than £100 and we see it as a badge of honour to scalp you for at least a monkey - that’s £500…….. -
