The Phuket sub-district of Kamala in Kathu district had a shocking visitor recently as local residents spotted a pangolin, sometimes known as a scaly anteater, creeping out of the area jungle. The often trafficked animal was seen by the Water Production Plant in Kamala on Tuesday in the Khlong Nam area. The locals who spotted the pangolin notified the Kamala Tambon Administrative Organisation who sent rescue workers to deal with the wild animal. The team arrived to find a relaxed female pangolin that had curled up for a peaceful nap beside a canal under a tree. The pangolin weighed in […]

"The pangolin weighed in at about 4 kilogrammes, and the rescue team were able to take the creature into custody without incident. She was transported to the Kamala Police Station for further processing."

Wow, so many questions...

How does one take a Pangolin into custody? Are hand/paw cuffs involved? Does the animal have to see a Lawyer? A  Judge? What are the holding cells for Pangolins like? Are they gender-separated? Have they been inspected by the International Community? Are there Pangolin Prisoners of Conscience?

What further "processing' occurred? Were finger/paw prints taken? Hmm... is there a database of Pangolin prints; some might be on overstay! What Pangolin-specific forms are there? Or, are the standard TM-6 Entry forms used? How did the police ensure that this was a Thai Pangolin and not a sneaky foreign Pangolin which crossed the border illegally? Are more Pangolins massing at the border? When will this menace be stopped? Should the Military's budget be increased to deal with this threat? Is this the reason for the new planes?

Will the Pangolin be sent to IDP jail in Bangkok? What measures will the police take to ensure that no more Pangolins are found in the area? Could we see the formation of an Anti-Pangolin Task Force? Which senior officers were involved in Pangolin-Gate? Have they since been promoted (they damn well better have been!)? Is there a new Police Division in the works for this kind of sordid situation?

Finally, where is the Pangolin now? It is very suspicious that we haven't heard from it since the capture and arrest. I can only imagine the police spokesman's comment...

..."(burp)".

TT; we, your readers, expect follow-up reporting on Pangolin-Gate!

I think the latest news we will find on this animal, is that it was an illegal immigrant from China or Vietnam with both countries seeking it's extradition. However, as both countries have failed to ratify the Pangolin extradition treaty, the RTP have decided on compassionate grounds, that the country offering the highest reward, is likely to be the one that is most concerned about it's welfare, and will decide accordingly once the reward has been received.

I think that this story desperately needs an update.

Where exactly is the Pangolin now? Was it actually returned to the Nature Reserve as claimed? Were there any photos to corroborate the story? Which Officers escorted the Pangolin there and why are their names not published as per usual? Why isn't anyone pointing? Damn it! WHERE'S THE POINTING!!!

Given the lack of clarity on the origins of the Pangolin (was it Thai or Foreign?), were the authorities wise to release it in a new area? Has any follow-up been conducted regarding its activities in the Nature Reserve? Did it meet up with other Pangolins and if so, what did they discuss? Could this be the opening salvo in an Anti-Human International Pangolin Alliance? Have local Pangolin cells been infiltrated? IF NOT, WHY NOT?

Rumour has it that it may have been either a Chinese or Vietnamese spy Pangolin, but concrete proof remains elusive at the time of writing. This poster's sources claim that it is/was a Burmese Pangolin sent in ahead of a number of Burmese Pangolins planning on infiltrating the country. Others cite their 'Own Research' to claim that it was an alien Pangolin sent to foster a resistance movement for when the Space Pangolins return. WHICH IS IT?

Have all the appropriate military assets been deployed? Are the submarines ready in case future Pangolins attempt a water crossing? Are the Special forces deployed? Have checkpoints been established to monitor any further Pangolin movements? Are Pangolin ID-producing groups being watched? IF NOT, WHY NOT?

The last known reports on this incident utilized words like "Delicious", "Oh! I'm stuffed" and "<BURP!!!>".

C'Mon TT, follow up please.

(hmm... slow news day)
