In Chiang Mai, a dramatic drug bust of 6 million meth pills started with the suspect smashing through a roadblock in his truck and ended in a hail of gunfire. The pursuit and shootout took place yesterday in the northern province’s Mae Ai district last night with a rogue suspect leading police on a tense car chase to Fang district. The police received a tipoff about a black pickup truck said to be transporting a shipment of illegal drugs across the province. Perfect storm is brewing. A lot of desperate people up north, thanks to COVID politics, and immense profit opportunities with illegal drugs. Literally daredevil poor young "cowboys" with not much to lose. Just like in Mexico or Colombia. One could easily earn hundreds of thousands of baths per one drug run.

Now the drug runners are not even afraid to smash through a road block and shoot back at cops, very unusual in Thailand. That is a very bad sign, usually they surrender easily with not much resistance. This could escalate into full blown war on drugs.

Good to get so much of this poison off the streets. The man was a drugs runner and prepared to shoot. But where are the ones who make this stuff? And who was he going to deliver it to? Dead men tell no tails.

The Moral of the Story is:

1) There is always a Tip off of such drug in transport.

2) The drug of such quantity is either being manufactured or illegally moved from other countries to Thailand.

3) The Road blocks are not efficient to stop an pick up truck, need review.

4) If it is co ordinated by 3 departments, there can be a road block of various kinds to ensure the no escape and it proves as a deterrents for future incidents.

5) The Transporter is well prepared for eventuality fully loaded either to face police or at eventualities from competitor dons, Government Agencies Need to prepare based on the consignment and its cost.

Overall the Transporter is killed, evidence will miss.

In such eventualities exercising caution by allowing the assailant to empty all his resources to surrender as assailants are less in numbers where as the Police are large in numbers with good morale. Officers needs to arise to situation to capture assailants alive rather than counter fire to suppress fire.

This is my opinion.
