It is irrational that Chiang Mai is not a Dark Red zone. The daily new case rate has risen inexorably for weeks, the designated hospitals are full, they are having to bring in medics from other provinces and the testing programmes are utterly inadequate. It is clear that the use of the  Sinovac+AZ vaccine mix is inadequate. I have 4 Thai friends who were given this and over 14 days 3 of them are positive and hospitalised. On top of this the migrant workers here are hiding from the testing programme so are spreading the disease all over. And the locals seen totally indifferent and do not use the thermo scanners & Thaichana app. The phrase "we have to live with Covid" now means "we can ignore all regulations". And the authorities are asleep at the wheel.

That's interesting. Do you know how long after the second injection (AZ) did they contract covid?

Why are you surprised ?

The OP mentioned people are not practicing control measures.

Vaccination does not stop you contracting Covid, it only assists to make the symptoms less severe.

From what I see and hear around Chiang Mai, the majority of +ve cases are found among small (older) villages and market places.  The majority of serious cases requiring hospitalisation are elderly and they generally do not seek help until almost too late due to a mistrust of the system.

Below is a comprehensive breakdown of the situation and AFAIK the private hospital cases include many imported patients from Bangkok.

Friday, Nov. 12 COVID-19 figures for Chiang Mai Province.

456 new COVID-19 cases in Chiang Mai Province today - 450 local and six imported

the total cases since April 5 is now 22,674

16,404 recovered (+440)

82 dead (+4) - the highest daily single COVID death toll for CM to date.

4,900 active cases

Current cases by location:

field hospital - 216

special field hospital - 91

community isolation - 2,296

home isolation - 406

Hospital - 351

government hospital - 537

private hospital - 925

provincial hospital - 78

COVID-19 vaccination stats - target population is 1,729,353

1st shot - 1,277,825 (73.89%)

2nd shot total - 903,902

3rd shot total - 58,896

Here in UK we're way past worrying about people catching covid because as has been proven vaccination helps considerably in not catching covid, and as you rightly say for those who have been jabbed and caught covid the symptoms are less severe and do not require hospitalisation, so what's the problem?

We're also way past worrying about anti-vaxxers who contract covid and end up in hospital.

So, what are they saying? Is it the gathering in the bars that cause the spread of covid or is it the alcohol consumption? If its gathering then how come you can sit in restaurants . Why cant they open the vars to sell soft drinks as you dont get too many people standing in Thai bars anyway, they could just spread the seats out as they did in the UK when the pubs and clubs opened the first time in the UK. after lock down. Its all waiter service anyway . If you can get a beer in Bangkok then why not Pattaya I suspect there is something political here with friends in the right places
