News Forum - UK Pensions in Thailand losing up to 20,160 baht a year
The u.k won't change it's policy on this topic so just accept it or go live in a country that they have an agreement with, i just live with it not crying over a small amount per year which is never going to become a large sum of money before i die based on what they increase the pensions by yearly. I have 2 state pensions one is from the uk 28yrs the other from the channel islands guernsey 16yrs which is part of great britain not the u.k and funny enough they do increase my pension every year. Keep having your pensions paid into a bank in your home country not a Thai bank. -

News Forum - Studies show Omicron infection in vaccinated people “turbo-charges” immunity
Both my wife & I got three BionTech shots (the 3rd one in Dec 2021/Jan 2022), and both of us got Omikron last month. Did feel like a very nasty flu, for a few days my sense of smell was completely gone, but after 10 days it was practically gone. According to the rules in Switzerland I didn't report to the hospital because of only mild symptoms. Stayed at home and worked from there and even flew to Thailand end April. So from my own experience I cannot understand why there is still a general mask mandate in Thailand, and why other Covid-restrictions are still in place. Just get over it, let everyone get their Omikron infection which eventually will serve as another booster shot. Covid is there to stay so let's get over it the sooner the better. Will there be a slight increase in Covid-related deaths? Probably yes, but year after year tens of thousands die of the flu virus every year in Europe, so sadly, this is part of life. Even China will come to understand that their "Zero-Covid" strategy is doomed to fail in the long run. So I hope that the sooner the better Thailand will take a more relaxed (and pragmatic) stance with regards to Covid to allow everyone to recover from the economic hardship of the last two years. -

Any recommendation on Thai lawyer for assets arrangement between an international marriage?
Hi there, I'm new here. I know this forum for long time but it's the first time to post here, asking for recommendation for my poor friend. My friend married with a Thai guy for many years and now have 2 children (both 10+ years old). They knew each other in New York and moved back to Thailand around 10 years ago. At that time, coz my friend was earning quite a good money (she's in investment industry) more than to cover the whole family's living cost, they decided that my friend kept working and the Thai guy could be full-time dad. My friend thus bought a private villa together with 2 cars in Thailand. But she doesn't have much ideas about the Thai asset ownership regulations, nor she has too many time to research the laws (new mom for 2 kids), also she's in full trust on that man, so they put all these assets under that man's name when that man told her "foreigners can't own any asset in Thailand". All these years they went through a peaceful life only except her investment business dropped down a lot due to the covid situation, and that man have a serious liver problem by having too much alcohol. Last month, that man was sent to ICU and stay in ICU till today, unconscious, not able to do anything as doctor stated in medical certificate. Even more, the doctor said he could be passed away in anytime. This man hasn't ever set a will. Now all the loans, bills, medical bills, children tuition fees, etc. go to my friend. She want to sell the house and cars to get through this tough time, but her name is not on the ownership book of house and cars. More, the man's dad and step-brother is asking for sharing the assets too. Come to the point of this post, we need a Thai lawyer who's expertise in international marriage and asset arrangement. I come to this forum to ask for such recommendation. if you knows anyone who is very strong on this aspect, please kindly advise. Really appreciated! -

I think it might be because UK has a reciprocal social security agreement with the Philippines. Some years ago I applied to make contributions for years that I missed when overseas so I wrote to the authorities advising where I had been for the missing years and they gave me credit for the years that I was in the Philippines. I believe the reciprocal agreement with the Philippines came about because of the large number of Philippines staff employed in the NHS
