How many would go to Phuket, with all those hoops, and then 7d quaranteen on return?

Great news but no mention that most people in Australian have government health insurance that does not cover overseas trips and would not have or be able to get 100,000 us dollars health coverage so  until the Covid 19 health insurance is scrapped you and the Australian consul and Thai Tourist Authority are blowing bubbles? Do your homework before printing fantasy.

This all sounds so advanced in planning. In reality, today the Australian Prime Minister made announcements without consulting the State Premiers (Provincial Governors). It's a bit like TAT (Totally Awesome Thailand)..... spin a big story and they'll come (or in this case go). Again, in reality, Australia has reached over 50% fully vaccinated as a nation, but in some states (provinces), vaccine rates are 45% fully vaccinated. The target nationally is 80% fully vaccinated before reopening. 70% will be reached in the next month. But from 70% to 80% is a tough ask. It means all the people who are hesitant to get vaccinated, get vaccinated. Compare that to the situation in Thailand and it's vaccination rates and their lack of supply, yes Australia will reach these benchmarks before Thailand does. Thailand has a much larger population and with a shortage of vaccines, I can't estimate when Thailand will reach these benchmarks.  But, if Thailand concentrates it's vaccination efforts on it's most popular tourist destinations and makes it easy for fully vaccinated tourists to visit, then tourists will come and in good number.

Great!

Now if we can just manage to get the Aussies to open their wallets for once in their life after they arrive...

The last time an Aussie bought a round at the bar, Jesus was still scoring goals for Jerusalem United.

You hang out with the wrong Aussies, Scots and Poms are the tight Ars.s. Most Scots I know still have the first penny they ever got and the Poms still have their first 3 pence.

Eh, it's a "home" quarantine. And unless they are tagged, no Aussie is going to be forced to stay at home for a week.

"I got me mates, ya know. Gotta do me mates." As he leaves his ankle bracelet, phone or other tagged device in the bog at home.

Then they'd have to do the same as every other traveler, from around the world, that wants to come and play in Thailand...buy from a Thai insurance company.

So far, no international coverage of health - even if it specifically meets the amounts needed by the Thai government - has been accepted, that any of us know of.

Aussies...just like the rest.  Pay up or stay home.

Home quarantine on return is acceptable to me.

It took me 5 minutes online to buy insurance, why can't an Oz do the same?
