Pattaya officials are trying to set more modest goals for the upcoming tourism season as an unnamed official says it is unlikely Pattaya will get a million tourists a month during the high season. Pattaya used to see as many as 800,000 to a million visitors a month. Prior to the pandemic, circa 2018-2019, Bunawan says tourism brought in 276 billion baht to the local economy […]

Obviously these Pattaya Officials never, repeat, never worked for Tourism Authority of Thailand! Just because Modest Goals is not in their vocabulary!

You have to laugh " An unkwown Source "  Well I confirm he is in fact a Street Vender called Mr Thaidreamer who is a well known odd job man who works in the TAT office in Pattaya.

"Bunawan hopes Pattaya will be open to foreigners ASAP, eyeing an opening sometime in the middle of next month to provide Pattaya with a chance to see how their protocols will do before the high season starts."

What are these "protocols". Though they failed, I can understand that Phuket had a plan to keep infections low by isolating the island. How are they going to stop the import and export of CV from Pattaya?

The only way the effectiveness of a protocol can be testes is by audit trail, and if you can't identify the source of an infection, it cannot be audited,

Expecting high numbers of international tourists is like expecting the tide won't rise! Cautious and sustained  will always be better than boom and bust. People's lives ad livelihoods depend on it!

They really are building up trouble for themselves yet again.

In the early stages of this pandemic they fixated on “Zero” cases. They made such a big thing of this and instilled total fear in the population. Once the inevitable happened and the virus took hold, they are now fixating on “cases” and once again putting the fear of god up the population. If they don’t start educating local people that once vaccinated, this then becomes about the number of hospitalisations and deaths, then they have a major problem. If Thailand could miraculously vaccinate 100% of the entire population and then open up two weeks later, the first week will see case numbers rise and rise. Authorities will panic and close down certain venues, isolate people in hospital and cause utter chaos. They need to start this education process now. Stop talking about herd “immunity” and start explaining the benefits of vaccination.  It will encourage people to come forward for vaccination.

In the U.K. the negative media still publish the daily cases but no one takes note of them. Hospitalisations are given a glance and only deaths cause comments. Vaccination rates are high, everywhere is open. Stadiums and concerts are once again full and the economy is moving.

If only Covid wasn't still the third highest cause of death in the UK.

Still no details of the restrictions and requirements to visit. How can they be this close to opening without knowing and giving that information to tourists? I’m thinking 200K is wildly optimistic at this stage.

As long as governments worldwide maintain travel restrictions on there citizens and residents there will not be a high season any time.

any schemes tat or inbound tourism operators come up with will have little or no effect.

It's just the way it is.they will  have to continue to sit it out the same as everyone else.

No such thing as high tourism season, if the government keep on worrying about quarantine & majority of the entertainment/nightlife venues are closed for the longer period of time due to the fear of the virus. Mass vaccination is way too slow plus they are trying to trick us to come to Thailand & screw us upon arrival to do quarantine, spend money on hotels & COVID-19 testing.
