The good news is, Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew announced that restrictions and on entering Phuket will ease on October 1. The bad news is, this hasn’t been officially enacted yet and the actual changes to restrictions are extremely minimal. According to the announcement by the governor, a meeting yesterday of the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee has decided on the following overhaul: instead of requiring a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of arrival to Phuket, visitors will now have to show a negative Covid-19 test taken within the last 7 days. All other restrictions will remain in place since the previous easing […]

So the rules change for domestic arrivals but international arrivals still have the same BS to go through, what's next, domestic arrivals to get free PCR tests or maybe they will be waived too ?

TIT.

That is where they are at and always will be at.  The Governer of Phuket decided that they wanted international tourism to 'save' them because 3 million+ would come. But that didnt work out because they are too ignorant to just accept our ridiculous rules and huge increase is case numbers, so now he is begging the domestic tourists to come back - sorry sorry.

I find the article vague. It makes reference to the last change being allowing domestic tourists to go to Phuket and then links this current change to the requirements. Equally, it doesn’t explicitly say this is just for domestic tourists. A change from 72 hours to 7 days for international tourists would be helpful.  It would remove some of the stress of getting the test done, waiting for results and then getting to the airport, especially for testing over weekends. I’m sure it is just for domestic travellers as the Thais have no problem whatsoever is operating double standards on just about anything involving foreigners even if common sense and basic logic suggests it’s wrong.

No thanks still to many Hoops to jump through.

Agreed. I wouldn’t jump through these hoops, but as they say - Every little helps!

Im prepared to have a PCR check prior to departure but that’s about it. However if I want to return to Thailand within the next 12 months then I will have to reduce my hopes. I believe the PCR test before departure. The COE, at least 7 days quarantine and additional Covid insurance will be in place for at least 6 month. I don’t think any serious relaxation will take place until then.

to really secure in a sanitary way it was necessary to put a test at the entrance.

in 7 days so much can happen ...

then they will say that they are doing everything for the safety of the island ...

The only effective measure with Delta is 86% of the total population vaccinated, migrants included .

A test seven days before entering - why even bother?

Ah that's right, because with Bangkok opening up for arrivals with relaxed quarantine, bang goes the sandbox.

About a year ago after 1st lockdown, The 9 months without foreign travellers and all bars, restaurants, clubs were open,  domestic tourists were nowhere near enough to make an impact.. why do they think this will revive the island now...

This "instead of requiring a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of arrival to Phuket, visitors will now have to show a negative Covid-19 test taken within the last 7 days." is not a minor change! That is a "get more Delta infected domestic traveller on there highest contagious days to Phuket"

7 days was already a game, with the "GB mutation", but with the "India mutation", they get tested negative, but arrive just in time, to be able totransfer covid to others.

Aren't they understanding, that every tourist, get tested positive at the 3 test, or before flying home, HAD to catch it on Phuket/in Thailand?

And the "have to be fully vaccinated", got "one dose of AZ, Pfizer/Moderna" changed to 2 (TWO) doses of these vaccines?

These requirements   are a great source of revenue ! I refuse to give in !

Further more ,these big resorts should pay for the requirements to entice customers imop

"The only effective measure with Delta is 86%" - I wish people wouldn't post this type of information. The number is 86.497%. By posting 86.497%, some people might be more inclined to believe you're not making up the number.

They can not accept that people have not  come in the numbers they NEED, as already evidenced by the Sandbox numbers.

Tinkering around the edges of these draconian restrictions is not, and will not, change anything for the better. The Sandbox mentality is not what tourists want or will accept.

They need to get the country fully vaccinated, give it at least two weeks to do its thing, set a date for reopening,  stick to it and fully open, bars, restaurants, entertainment venues etc. NOTHING ELSE IS GOING  TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Even then, it will take years for the country to regain the confidence and trust of the travelling public.

A government of f.....g idiots, thinking we're all desperate to come back and restore the 20% GDP that they have thrown away.😊

Look at the last TAT statement yesterday " We are looking into Russian and Indian Tourists to return " . These must be Gullible to believe and except the Hoops. The TAT have finally understood the Chinese and European Tourists  will not be coming till they drastically change there requirements and give us something to come back for.

The Chinese will only come when their Government relaxes the three week quarantine on return from anywhere. Nothing to do with anyone else's demands including Thailand.

The number is obtained with the following formula:

 1 - 1 / R0

R0 of the virus is the basic reproduction number.

For the Delta the R0 is between 6 and 7.

For R0 a 7 the vaccination rate is 85.71% rounded to 86%

is it clearer for you?

Wuhan R0 is 3... Vaccination rate 67%

They still have no clue what's going on. Thailand is in life support & poverty mode & still worrying about how many days of COVID-19 tests need. Need to take care of their citizens in restoring economy/mass tourism.

What else? "This is Thailand" attitude. Their mass vaccination is way too slow. Don't forget, the Thai government, CCSA & MOPH just extended the state of emergency by Nov 30th which means in the next 3 weeks by Oct 15, the reopening will be Dec 1st.

The statement " The only effective measure with Delta is 86% of the total population vaccinated, " is a 96.7% chance of being a hallucination. Even people who are vaccinated are spreading Covid and dying from Covid. The efficacy among the current vaccines is dropping rapidly.

Sorry, but while your formula's arguably correct your understanding of the 'r' number is completely wrong.

The 'r' number isn't a set figure, or even a bracket of figures ("between 6 and 7") as it varies from place to place and over time depending on any number of factors from population density to mask wearing, so as soon as you change the rules the 'r' number changes.

The whole idea of herd immunity at 85% (or 70%, or any other figure) was dropped months ago, and no respected or responsible doctors, scientists or virologists are even talking about it any more.

If you disagree, name any.

The deciding factor is simply protection, based on numbers vaccinated and infected but recovered, and that's an arbitrary political / humanitarian /  economic decision by the country's leaders, not a medical one.

R0, also known as the virus's reproduction rate, shows the average number of people a contagious person could infect. This rate applies to, and is calculated from a population that is fully susceptible to infection, that is, that has not yet been vaccinated or immunized against the infectious agent. If nowadays, this kind of situation is more and more rare; R0 remains a key tool in epidemiology for implementing vaccination campaigns and preventing the spread of new emerging viruses.

Yes, but your understanding of it is incorrect.

The two links I gave explain why at far more length than I can, or have time for here.

the scenario with the effective R (instead of the R0) is only good for a while. people pay less and less attention to barrier gestures. of course, there are more and more people vaccinated, you suppose that this compensates ... to eradicate smallpox, with your solution, we should not have vaccinated more than 99% ... for measles should- do we stop the vaccination? vaccinating at 1- 1 / R0 allows the clusters to extinguish naturally, in safety ...
