According to a Bangkok Post report, the PM has instructed officials to prepare to boost tourism while still living with Covid-19 restrictions. "the PM, he instructed the 3 ministries to identify more areas that could be part of the country’s re-opening programme, which has been given the catchy title, “Covid-free Tourist Area Sandbox”.

"... it would be better off if we will keep waiting for another month to ensure the country is really ready.” Another month ? Six months more likely (until 80% of the population are fully vaccinated).

"Life Has Not Improved By As Much As We Hoped" - Singapore Outbreak Worsens With 80% Vaccinated

It's a lesson that's not unique to Singapore; "One main lesson from across South-East Asia is that it is incredibly hard to prevent Delta's spread and, as Singapore shows, even high vaccination rates will not help that much," Cook added.

The vaccination rate for collective immunity depends on the effective reproduction number called R0.

The R0 for the delta variant is 6 or 7. If we take 7, the formula (1-1 / R0) gives 85.7% for collective immunity.

Why continue to talk about 70% vaccinated ?

The Wuhan virus is no longer circulating.... He had an R0 of 3 (1- 1 / R0 = 66%)

85,7% It's just the right value for Delta variant ...

These vaccines do not provide herd immunity. Their effectiveness is already lowered with Delta.

Exactly. I don't get why people keep talking about herd immunity when there's enough data now from highly vaccinated countries like Israel that herd immunity from the vaccines isn't happening.  The only possible herd immunity is going to be from natural immunity, and we still don't have the data as to whether it's possible.  Essentially, we need to learn to live with the virus and move on with life.

The poor people and all the tourism related businesses of Thailand really really need to go back to work. In places where there are covid cases it can become a nasty pneumonia like other coronavirus flu especially if a person's health is compromised or elderly. That said, very FEW die from it.  So stop being paralysed by the mere possibility that you will get covid flu. Wash hand often, mask as needed. Take vitamins. Avoid crowded venues. Life and business continue!
