So, the 85% applies to whoever goes into the school. These people don't get into contact with others outside the school???

No subgroup needs to be 85% vaccinated. The country needs to be!

The vaccination rate for collective immunity depends on the effective reproduction number called R0.

The R0 for the delta variant is 6 or 7. If we take 7, the formula (1-1 / R0) gives 85.7%.
