Holiday with no alcohol might work for a few, but it'll deter the majority. Perhaps offer free Kratom instead?

Of the nearly 30,000 sandboxers arriving in Phuket, only 6 had a positive result on the day 12 test. With 3 previous negative tests, they were almost certainly infected after arriving in Phuket.

The data shows that after the day 6 test, only 0.02% were positive on that final day 12 test. Yet all sandboxers had to pay for an SHA+ hotel for one more week. The sandbox stay requirement could be 7 instead of 14 days with almost zero risk to Phuket.

1/ Was there a cluster on the flight of a positive? it seems that no so no isolation from other passengers. this constraint can be alleviated by this experience. the PCR test on arrival is a good test.

2/ the positives on arrival had which vaccines?

3/ the positives on arrival had a test 24/48/72 hours before arrival?

4/ 7-day positives had a 24/48/72 hour test before arrival?

they are chewing the same gum. interesting to see tho, that even UK put Thailand and many countries on the red list, Ireland just announced something completely different:

 

"Unvaccinated travelers from Thailand to Ireland must self-quarantine for 14 days. Travelers must quarantine at the address specified on the Passenger Locator Form. Travelers can take a COVID-19 RT-PCR test on day 5 of quarantine and end their quarantine with a negative result.

All travelers who arrive without a negative test result must quarantine in a designated quarantine hotel. This period can be shortened upon receiving negative results from a COVID-19 PCR test taken on day 10.

This requirement does not apply to:
-Travelers with proof of recovery from COVID-19 in the last 6 months;
-Travelers who are fully vaccinated."

Not sure if you are advocating for an Irish approach to this, but looking at some of the history of this and the figures reported in this story, I am not sure that would be the answer.

You might recall that the first imported case, was from the Qatar flight on July 1st, and that the traveller was fully vaxxed, albeit with Sinovax. As a vax, that has proved as effective as using emulsion paint to weatherproof a house in the monsoon season.

Then of course, Ireland offers a "get out of quarantine free" card with a negative PCR test taken after 5 days. But reading the article, it can be seen that some of the imported cases were detected after 7 and 14 days. They may have possibly been infected after arrival, but who can say with certainty that a test after 5 days will catch all imported cases.

Though you have not raised it in your comment, I get the impression that those advocating for easing of restrictions actually want all restrictions dropped. You can see them calling for restaurants to be allowed to serve alcohol with food, and no mention of bars reopening. Then you see them advocating for the re-opening of "entertainment venues". Do they really think customers will be queueing to visit these places when there is an alcohol ban. in the numbers that they used to? If they allow the reopening of these venues, then you can be certain that the first words out of the mouths from the advocates for full reopening will be, "It does not make sense to open these places and maintain an alcohol ban".

Personally, I think the best solution to the CV prob in TH, is a total re-vax of all the Sinovax recipients, but that will take time. During the meantime, these businesses in Phuket remain under threat of going bust. So te question must eventually be one of Public Health-v-The Economy. You can be sure that someone, somewhere in BKK is doing a cost/benefit analysis and that will be the deciding factor.
