Yesterday saw a record 257 Covid-19 infections in one day, one more than the last new record high in Phuket the day before. The death yesterday brought the total number of deaths from Covid-19 in Phuket to 20, with 8 of those deaths occurring during August, 2 more than the number who died in July. Officials on the southern island of Phuket are pinning their hopes on vaccinated domestic tourists to revive the flagging economy.

Soon there will be no place on Phuket for a Sandboxer to go on Phuket that will be safe for them, without becoming a close contact of a high risk contagion. Then it’s off to a ALQ for 14 days. I suppose April 1st just can’t come round soon enough.

You mention the figure of 83 Sandbox arrivals who tested positive "sometime after landing".

Does this include those who got infected *after* leaving their hotel?

If so, do you know the number who tested positive on arrival?

A couple of valid questions, for sure and although I don't have the answers to hand, it's more than likely that other members and/or my colleague, @Faz, will be here to lend you a hand.  And your debut post, too, so thanks for that!

Clearly, infections are rising. I would understand that anyone arriving from overseas would be fully vaccinated. It's a requirement. Being fully vaccinated doesn't prevent infection, it does stop serious illness or death from infection. So in te end it depends what tolerance level the Thaiii Government has under the circumstances. It's obvious that the sandbox thresholds have been exceeded.
