Details have now solidified on the arrest of Thitisan Utthanaphon, aka “Chief Joe”, aka “Jo Ferrari”, the police station superintendent accused with 6 other officers of suffocating a suspect in custody, allegedly in an attempt to extort him for 2 million baht. A major general from the Provincial Police Region 6 reported he called Jo Ferrari at 11 pm last night, asking him to surrender and arranging to pick him up […]

I’m constantly amazed at the number of criminal defendants in Thailand who will talk to the police ON CAMERA with reporters standing around. Some even walk the police through the crime scene and explain exactly how they committed the crime….

Your rights do you no good if you through them away so haphazardly.

Pathetic isnt it, a senior policeman asks a man wanted for murder to surrender, What !!!

He has been given time to get things arranged to possibly help cover up several facts, possibly sorting out a deal, so as not to uncover his seniors involvement.

40 000 baht salary, there must be some dead friends who lend him hundres of milliins of baht cash and ferraries, Lambourghinies and Porsches. Maybe the same friend who lend the watches to Prawit.

Thailand Only

Really? Remember the parade of convicted criminals pardoned a year or so ago by a former US president (and Roger Stone held many press conferences)? Thailand has no monopoly on this bad behavior.

It is being reported in some Thai news outlets, that he has paid five million baht to his victims family, probably to shut them up.

You’re comparing a guy who doesn’t remember the content of text messages with a police officer with a 40,000 Baht monthly salary, who on video tortured a man and murdered him then tried to flee but a “cop” told him to come back and he’s holding a press conference

You’re comparing a guy who failed to file an FBAR while a police officer who put a plastic bag over some guys head and strangled him to death, on video and told the guys girlfriend to leave and not say a word. And this same officer is now holding a press conference where we all know what will happen

Youre comparing a guy who doesn’t remember a certain date about a conversation held a year prior to a police officer who just bribed the guy’s, who he murdered, father to keep quiet and told his subordinates to take the body to the hospital and say he died of drug overdose and is now holding a press conference.

Wait maybe your right…

Excuses, excuses.  He’ll apologize, become a monk for a week and then get a promotion.  And he’ll keep that Lamborghini he shook down from a drug dealer.  Next.

"the rouge officers" - Is this a new division of the RTP, "red" police officers?

What's astounding to me is that none of this guy's wealth and ill-gotten gains have been hidden.  How do you hide a bloody great big house and a collection of 30 luxury cars?

The "blind eye" of the law seriously comes into question in cases like this.

My prediction is that he'll get off, based on the "excuse" he's come up with, as it will be his word vs the "confused" words of his subordinates, so a court will buy his "I was trying to get more information..." defense, thereby sanctioning what we strongly suspect to be torture by the BiB in getting confessions. Why else would every criminal in this country stand still for a picture and re-enact their crimes even before going to court?

An absolute joke... A coverup has begun . Hes been given the advice already by the police chief..  we will look after you .. all as bad as each other.. the top cops only get where they are by all the corruption.  Are they going to speak to his girlfriend about what she knows.. of course they won't because her father is also a top cop and probably knows to well about all the corruption .

So he put a black plastic bag over his head, to prevent the suspect from seeing him.

Of course the victim so far had been forthcoming to close his eyes, to not be able to see him.

This incredible stupid police officer is a worthy contender to go against Prayut for the title of most stupid person in Thailand.

It could be very interesting (and entertaining) to see and hear the nonsense they would come up with to win that title.  It could be televised and be the start of a series titled The Moron King or something like that.

It is not a blind eye they are on the pay bill. It would be also interesting how many hospitals are in this business or delivery service for dead bodies and write the wished death cause. I always was wondering about the Pattaya flying club.

What "rights" do you think he has ? This it THAILAND, not the (USA/UK/Australia or wherever).

In THAILAND, if a suspect confesses to the crime and cooperates with the police (i.e. by showing them what he/she did and how) they can expect to get half the sentence they would have if they'd pled not guilty and were found guilty during a trial.

For example. A robbery suspect decides to plead not guilty (because he's watched too many American TV shows and thinks he can get off on a technicality). He doesn't cooperate with the police, goes to trial, evidence is presented which, in America, may have been tossed, the judge (no jury trials in THAILAND) finds the defendant guilty and gives him 10 years in prison (or whatever the maximum is for that particular crime).

But, because this is Thailand, lets say the same suspect, knowing he's guilty as hell, pleads guilty right away and cooperates with the police.
No need for a long, drawn out trial, the judge merely has to pass sentence. In "gratitude" for saving the system the time and expense of a trial, the defendant is given a 5 year sentence (half of whatever the maximum sentence would have been).

(And that sentence can be knocked down by quite a few years due to annual Royal Pardons.)

A lot of foreigners here assume that people have the same "rights" here as they would "back home" which simply is not the case.
Which is also why a lot of foreigners end up in prison here, because they seem to think they should be able to get away with the same things they can "back home".

Then discover stuff like how possession of even a small quantity of a "recreational drug" can land them in prison for 20 years when "back home" the worst they'd face is having their stash confiscated.
