News Forum - Expect more floods coming up this weekend in most of Thailand
In Chiang Mai and surrounding provinces the rain finally eased early evening although runoff was still cascading down from the hills. Chiang Mai city and suburbs flooded in low lying areas, anything from a half a metre up to 2 metres in a few locations. Similar levels to 2011. Flood levels seem to have peaked around midnight although water has nowhere to go and is only slowly dropping. Mahidol road & Hang Dong road south of the airport experienced up to 5cm surface water with some runoff pouring through low level shops. I've walked around some residential areas and seen new homes that had 5cm of water thru lower levels, pools filled with brown silt, mud and stones across gardens and driveways. Soi's still ~40cm/18" deep in water, was 75cm during the night judging by tide marks on walls. Lakes, khlongs and obviously the Mae Ping river are all swollen, full, and will take a day or 2 to drain away ... south. -
