Dr Tossaporn Serirak, the former Pheu Thai Party MP, is demanding the government provide a full disclosure regarding the distribution of the 1.5 million doses of Pfizer that the United States donated to Thailand. The former MP, who says he represents the “people’s sector”, delivered a petition this morning to Public Health Minister, and man deprived of credit for vaccines donated by the USA, Anutin Charnvirakul, requesting explicit details of the Pfizer vaccine distribution. Dr Tossaporn tells the media that he has been on the receiving end of complaints from medical officials who are involved in combatting Covid. He says […]

"I resent the fact that the USA has made Pfizer demand so high globally without increasing regional manufacturing."

I resent that you are making this an anti-American issue for no reason other than pique.

Yeah, they could look like AZ here in Thailand or any of the vaccines that India has refused because of indemnity issues, by allowing others to produce their product.  Look at the nightmare that is happening here as a good example.

This isn't a case of the US wanting you or anyone else approaching them on bended knee looking for fealty to recieve vaccines, it's largely about being able to control quality and ensure the drugs are properly made and handled.

The fact is that an American company managed to create the best product available on the market now, and that is what people want, Thailand included, it seems. Demand has vastly outstripped supply but they appear to be producing as much as they safely can, so far.

To blame the US government, which is passing out free vaccines as quickly as they can be made smacks of sour grapes and an incomplete grasp of the situation.

As always we (USA) stand on the forefront of many medical breakthroughs and some perceive this as a status of arrogance and superiority thus completely missing the entire point ! We do this mainly to quell the global spread and assist less developed countries in procuring a more effective vaccine without conditions attached . Moreover its just the right thing to do in a global pandemic . Yes it's as simple as that and politicizing or lending a platform to  fake information only exacerbates the situation needlessly ! Helping others in time of need isn't political.. it's civil humanitarianism !

I assume that we're talking about Pfizer here so just to set matters straight the vaccine was initially developed by the German company BioNTech. Pfizer stepped in with financial support and assistance in carrying out clinical trials and providing the manufacturing facilities. What really stinks is that this month Pfizer increased their price per Covid dose by more than 25%. Not quite the act of the civil humanitarian!

Well it is 1.5 and an additional 2.5 million coming.

And what about the USD $5 million being donated? That better be used for the people and not the hokey administration sucking and absorbing it into their pockets as a bonus.

So far I actually really like this Dr. Tossaporn. Time will tell if he is genuine or not.

Reality check here. The US, while indeed giving the vaccine away, is doing so only because those shots are surplus to our needs. "Civil humanitarianism" would have seen vaccine giveaways starting at Day-1. You know, that whole "we're all not safe until all of us are safe" narrative that the vaccine diplomats are pushing. But the US chose to freeze exports and vax up its own population (Full Disclosure: me included) before shot #1 left these hallowed shores.

Second "quell the global spread"? Really? The US has shipped, or committed to ship, 80 million doses - including 60M AZ which are manufactured but not approved for use in the US. That's enough for 40M people, or... <checks notes> 1/2 of 1% (0.005) of the global population. While I'm sure that each and every one of those 40M will be happy to get the shots, that volume hardly seems sufficient to quell much of anything.

@Colis right. Spending 150M on a soccer player (sorry, had to... ?) clearly indicates that our priorities as a species are completely messed up. Whether it's Thailand looking to beef up its underwater warfare division or all of us supporting the stupefyingly absurd amounts spent on the advertising vehicle that is pro sports, even a fraction of those "luxury" purchases redirected toward public health could have vaccinated the entire planet several times over.

The US has already donated 110M doses and none of them were AZ. The original commitment is for 250M doses donated by year end. That’s just the first target, the larger one is to donate 1B doses. Fact is the US still doesn’t know what to do with those 60M doses as they still are not approved for use (should be soon but they have been saying that for a long time).

Thanks for the correction. I was looking at older information.

Humans ways lie when they promise something to prevent any repercussions to come back at them.

Just look at a politician when they promise something.

Never comes true.
